Trying to Concieve

I was diagnosed with PCOS a year and a half ago (23 at the time, I am now 24), but deep down I had already known for a few years that PCOS was a huge possibility for me. I had all the the symptoms my mother had. The irregularity of menstrual cycles, the weight gain, the hormonal imbalances. I had already assumed I had it and when the doctor diagnosed me with it, it just confirmed my suspicions. I wasn't devastated about it or anything, I just knew becoming healthy was just gonna be a little harder than before. When I found out about the PCOS I was already engaged to my huband-to-be. I laid it down for him, told him everything and told him pregnancy may become an issue in the future.

Now we fast forward to the present and the future is now here. I have been losing weight, slowly but surely. I started at 245 nearly 6 months ago and I am now hitting 205 on the scale. my menstrual cycle is starting to show up more often and for the last few months my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. No luck yet, but hopefully if I continue to lose the weight, my body may kick back into a normal groove and eventually pregnancy may finally become a possibility. Any success stories, similar experiences, or even current struggles or support is greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks for listening guys. :)

BTW: I misspelled "conceive" in the title and it won't let me change it. lol, sorry!

    Hi and welcome,

I started TTC the first time at age 26. It took about a year. In fact, I was waiting for the next cycle to start to do fertility treatments when I found out. That pregnancy was great and easy and I have a six year old daughter.

We started trying again in December 2011. I just got pregnant this May. i should add that fertility goes down a little bit with age so I think that's why it took longer. Last time I just lost a few lbs. and got pregnant. This time I had to go on Metformin because I never had a cycle for seven months.

Both times I had pretty much given up hope. My best advice for you is that if you are like me (easily stressed out) try to relax as much as possible. I think it does help.

I was diagnosed in November 2012 at 28 years old after over a year of TTC. We were desperate to get pregnant so I started Clomid. After 3 rounds no luck. I was pretty devastated and my Dr. thought it was best to take me off of it and we see a fertility specialist. The next month. (march) we went it and had our first consultation. I had then realized that this would be our fate to do rounds and rounds of fertility IVF, or artificial insemination. Whatever we could to get pregnant. when it came time for my next cycle and for me to start the observation process with our fertility specialist my period never came. A week went by and I thought I could be pregnant but there is no sure way to know unless I tested. Little did I know when I peed on that stick it would say "PREGNANT".
I am now almost 7 months with hardly any issues. Just relax a little ( even though I know everyone has told you that) It will happen in God's perfect timing.

I was diagnosed this January after trying to conceive for eight months, and gaining 35 lbs during that eight months. With the diagnosis I changed the way I eat and started to work out more and differently I started at 265 am now down to 207. it has now been one year and 3 months since we began trying still no success but I am on my first treatment cycle with a fertilty specialist.

Good luck with everything! And I do suggest that if you have any DR who wants to put you on Clomid insist that they make sure your tubes are clear before doing so. Feel free to add me as a friend if you are wanting someone who is in the same spot as you.

Wow, thank you everyone for your stories and responses. It's nice to hear what others have gone through and the success you have all had. :) I think stress is my big factor as well as being overweight. My weight is shedding little by little, so I'm on the right track to that. As for my stress, I just need to relax I guess, lol. My husband and I have only been trying to Conceive for the past three months so it's still early for us. We are going to continue trying for a year as I try to decrease my weight. If next fall comes and there is still no luck then it may be time to talk to a doctor about fertility assistance.

I'm taking a cortisol blocker (supplement from my naturopath - not sure what's in it sorry) for stress (not at the moment since I'm a student with the summer off... no stress right now!). I only take it when I need it. It's really good for sleep.

Stress (cortisol levels) can have a negative impact on your weight loss efforts AND your hormone imbalance so for PCOS its important to do what you can to keep stress levels as low as possible. Not to mention women with PCOS already have a pre-disposition to depression which can contribute to the stress as well.

I hope you find something that works well for you! Good luck!

First off congrats on your weight loss.

I was told most of my life that I will not be able to have children because of PCOS. Well they were wrong, I now have two!!! What worked for me is being on metformin and monitoring my ovulation. Having PCOS I don't ovulate each month even though I get my period - it's was never normal either.

The over the counter ovulation kits worked awesome. For two months I monitored each day after my period stopped and never ovulated. Then on month three I ovulated and got pregnant! I stayed on the metformin until I was 12 weeks along. I repeated that same thing for both my kids. The first time took 3 months to get pregnant and the second was 4 months.

The kits are inexpensive and hopefully will work for you too.

    Best of luck.

When I started TTC I was 280 pounds, and I was put on the pill for three months (along with Metformin) to help regulate things. I lost 30 pounds and the week after I got off the pill... well, my userpic is my now 2.5 year old. :)

    Good luck!!

Be patient and keep trying. You're young and while the odds are slightly higher, you still have a better chance now than you may down the road. I had seasonal periods (once a season) in my twenties and they stopped altogether into my thirties. On my 36th birthday we visited a fertility clinic which started us on the most wonderful and amazing path to now (our daughter is a year and a half). I often wonder if I could have conceived on my own if I had started earlier, but honestly it doesn't matter. Life as it is is wonderful. She's running us ragged, but boy do we have an amazing story to tell her when she's older. :) ...and some explaining to do if she has PCOS symptoms.
