Problems sleeping at night

Hello all! Lately I find that I have a hard time either falling asleep, or falling back asleep after waking up to pee. Anyone else have this problem? I'm comfortable enough in bed but I find that all my worries, thoughts, etc. are amplified at night. Normally I sleep like a rock but this past week or so it's hard to get a 'normal' night's sleep. Any suggestions?

Um, yes, if I wake up (and I have a one and half year old, so I don't necessarily get a solid night's sleep) then I am up for 1-2 hours... or longer.

I had this problem a lot until I started my hypnobabies program. Before I got pregnant I had insomnia and used a FREE app called Relax Completely by Darrin Marks. They have it on android and iphone. It may be worth a shot since it is no cost. It really helped me to fall asleep or back asleep if I woke up.

Good luck. I hope you start sleeping better!

Try practicing some relaxation techniques. The one that I find most helpful is to focus on each muscle in your body and tense it, then relax it and imagine it getting heavy and warm. I usually start with my toes and work my way up, and am usually asleep before I ever reach my torso. Another one that works for me is to pick a theme and come up with something for each letter of the alphabet - could be movies, books, songs, fruit, etc. Those exercises both really work to keep my mind off my worries and are relaxing enough to put me back to sleep pretty quickly.

This happened a lot in my 2nd tri. I kept a notepad next to my bed to write down all the crazy things I wanted to remember. (Mostly "to do" lists.) It really helped me to release those items. Although some nights I was just wide awake for no reason. I would get up and get stuff done or log into work. It eventually went away... if that helps at all.

Thanks ladies! Just knowing I'm not alone in this craziness helps. I will definitely try writing everything down, and doing the relaxation techniques.

Wow! I felt like I could have written the original post myself. I don't remember having sleep problems with my first until the end of my pregnancy. I'm so sleepy now but I will just lay there at night. Then as I finally get to sleep my 2yo comes to our bed in the middle of the night. He go's right to sleep, but I just lay there... I sure hope this doesn't continue for the next 8 months

Happens to me several times a week and is totally normal unfortunately. In fact the other day, I was up at 2 am and never did go back to sleep before I had to go to work. One thing that helps me (if I think to take it) is Unisom. My doctor had me taking it for morning sickness in the beginning of my pregnancy so it is safe although I wouldn’t take it all the time and I only take half a tablet. I took a whole tablet once and slept until 130 pm the next day!!!

I miss sleep....pre-pregnant I could easily sleep 10 hours straight without waking up. Now I'm lucky if I get 4...the worst is if I wake up after 5AM because then my body is convinced its morning and I cannot fall back asleep no matter what I do.

I guess our bodies are just getting us ready for all those late night feedings in the future!

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Insomnia and I have been friends for awhile, but even more so now that I am pregnant. Thanks for the great suggestions. Someone else also suggested doing a few sun salutations. Here is a modified version for pregnancy: http://www.ekhartyoga.com/video/pregnancy-sun-salutation
