Taking off Work to Run

I'm taking Friday off from work just so I can get a 20-miler in. How many of you, like me, use personal/vacation/sick days just so you can run?

I have, on occasion, gone into the office a little late to work due to getting a long run in the morning. I usually stay a little later in the evening to make up for it. That is about the most I have done. Now I have taken vacation days to go on a trip to run a marathon out of town. That kinda counts.0

I'm in the Air Force, and at my office I'm afforded 90min 3x/wk to run. Also, we are allowed to take up to 30 paid days off per year to train/perform at sanctioned events. In other words, I get a 4-day weekend this weekend to run my full marathon0

I'd take a day here or there if needed. Haven't had to yet.0

Being an OS I don't get the 90 minute luxury lol....my schedule (2 on/2 off) works out sometimes, but it can be a hassle too. But I do like having the 30 days a year, I took a 4 day weekend to recovery from my half marathon...mainly because I want to, not that I will really need one for 13 miles. But since that is my first half I just wanna be safe and take it just in case.
But as taking a day off for the long run, I usually end up just having to shift days should I need to.0 -
I have taken the rest of my life off work, so that I can run when I like. Enter smug mode!!0

My boss told me he would rather I come in late, than not at all. So as the days get shorter, and I have long runs, I do on Friday, I just come in at 11 instead of 9. It give me time to get my run in, foam roll, shower, etc. I will switch to Saturday long runs after my next race at the end of this month. But he also gives me a 90 minute lunch hour so that I can do my shorter runs then.0

As a manager/team leader, I regularly work outside of standard hours and it is banked as 'flex time'. If I need to have an extra hour or so during the week, I will just use it from there. Mind you, I am training for a 1/2, not a full so I am able to get my runs in without the need to use that extra time.0

Man! I want to work for your boss! WOW! LOL!0 -
Lol! Fortunately, I only work part time. I've never taken days off to run. I actually shift my runs around if I have to. Like, I was scheduled to run 10 today, but I did it yesterday cuz I had to close last night. I used to work weekends, so while people were doing long runs on Sat or Sun, I did mine on Wednesday. At any rate, enjoy your run!0

I take off my birthday from work to run my age. The last time I took off work for that was June 11th where I did 32 miles. Next June 11th shall be 33 miles. I start at around 3am and am pretty much done before 8am. However, because its my birthday I wish not to work :-). Also, after doing those long runs my appetite opens up and I would be eating all day at work which would be unproductive...0

I've done it once. Also have stretched my lunch out to 2+ hrs for medium/longs.0

Not yet, but I have thought about it and I totally want to!0

I've taken comp time or vacation time to leave early....especially in the spring....to go enjoy a nice long run that won't interfere with my evening family time. I'm also using vacation to go to my first full marathon in Washington DC. Actually, I'm pulling the kids out of school for a day for that as well. :-)0

Fortunately I do not need! I'm from the Army and here we have 1h30min a day to training ourselves ....
But often I finish my activities early to get out sooner and prepare myself to the training ..0 -
I've used a personal day to enjoy a mid-week day time run.0

I do my long runs on the weekend, but I did take the Monday off following my first marathon. My next marathon is right at the end of September, which is quarter end. Being in Finance, I wont' be able to take the following day off this time around :-(.0

The only day I took off was the day after my first 50 miler. I could hardly walk, and work for me involves moving around on the ice. I would have been a danger to myself and to others... Before that, it had been over three years since I took a sick day so no, I don't take off work to run. However my schedule is such that although I work 7 days/week, I only work 530-9am on Monday. Then I go home and go out for a long run. Yay!0

About twice a year I schedule a day off from the office where I still send the little one into school (her school is in my office building) and I run home (about 7 miles or more). Then I do some things at home and go out to a nice lunch and have a beer. I do often feel a little guilty for doing this, but I am a single mom, and though I don't need a lot of time to myself, a full day to myself every 6 months is welcomed.
I don't schedule a day just to run though, although wanting to be able to run more than 5 miles on a week day without the jogger is usually what prompts the day off.0 -

My long runs are usually on Sundays, but sometimes I can't justify taking 3+ hours away from spending time with my family every weekend. I already work 50+ hours/week and am doing an internship for my MM, which takes up a big chunck of my Saturdays.0 -
I usually take long lunches at work and get my short runs in during the weekdays, or even just a 2-3 miler on a regular lunch break. It's amazing how it improves my mood, that little bit of fresh air.
As far as taking time off, I will usually take the Monday off following a Sunday Marathon race. I probably *could* go to work, and I have before, but meh, it's nice to relax0
