John 19:16-27
King James Versions
Jesus Is Nailed to a Cross

16 So Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be killed on a cross.
The soldiers took Jesus. 17 He carried his own cross to a place called “The Place of the Skull.” (In Aramaic the name of this place is “Golgotha.”) 18 There they nailed Jesus to the cross. They also nailed two other men to crosses. They put them on each side of Jesus with him in the middle.
19 Pilate told them to write a sign and put it on the cross. The sign said, “ jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews.” 20 The sign was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. Many of the Jews read this sign, because the place where Jesus was nailed to the cross was near the city.
21 The leading Jewish priests said to Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The King of the Jews.’ But write, ‘This man said, I am the King of the Jews.’”
22 Pilate answered, “I will not change what I have written.”
23 After the soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts. Each soldier got one part. They also took his tunic. It was all one piece of cloth woven from top to bottom. 24 So the soldiers said to each other, “We should not tear this into parts. Let’s throw lots to see who will get it.” This happened to make clear the full meaning of what the Scriptures say:
“They divided my clothes among them,
and they threw lots for what I was wearing.”
So the soldiers did this.
25 Jesus’ mother stood near his cross. Her sister was also standing there with Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 Jesus saw his mother. He also saw the follower he loved very much standing there. He said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son.” 27 Then he said to the follower, “Here is your mother.” So after that, this follower took Jesus’ mother to live in his home.

PRAYER: Dear God, Jesus was in physical pain, but worse, he shouldered the sins of all throughout history, and yet his concern was for his mother and John, the follower, he loved. May our focus on what is true and right be as our Savior showed us. To the honor and glory of God. In Jesus name. Amen

Pilate acknowledged that Jesus was the King of the Jews. He recognized his greatness, despite what was said about him and refused to change the sign The King of the Jews.

Jesus suffered so much both physically and bearing the sins of the world, yet he cared for the disciple he loved and his mother, telling them to take care of each other.

The soldiers played games to divide up his clothing, since it was of such fine cloth, that they didn't want to cut it into pieces.

I pray I am able to be as focused in my service to God, in times of trouble.
  • PILATE sent Jesus to the cross.. Jesus watched a clueless crowd that didn't acknowledge the Son of God.. Jesus family had to see the great pain inflicted

Jesus mother was probably only 39 or 40 years old at that time. She was a blessed woman to carry the Son of God. I have prayed for all my children's lives for them for health wisdom and salvation. Jesus was worried about his mother as he hung here for the sins of the whole world. How particular the people who were crucifying him were that they even wanted to Chang the wording on the sign Pilate wrote again second guessing him. I am trying not to second guess people and make apologies as I need to because many times we entertain angels sent by God. May I try more to be like him in all my interactions. Don't ask friends advice but ask God for wisdom. Your answers will come just ask. Thank you

Dear Lord, Knowing what you did for all humans to have an opportunity to come into relationship with you and accept your forgiveness and grace, I feel humbled by your ability to look at others and be concerned for their welfare because you had the grace of God on you to fulfil your purpose. I pray that I may also quit looking at the trials and tribulations I am in so I can be be concerned about others as I fulfil your purpose. IJN, Amen.

It's hard to imagine this woman's pain at what Jesus had to go through. I can't and don't even want to imagine it. But I am so thankful that He did or I would not be entitled to enter the kingdom of heaven. I thank Him that my children and family will have the right to the Kingdom. Thank you, our dear Lord, for dying on the cross for our sins.
