Speed of lifts

I watched the videos on the stickies and noticed the lifts are done what I would call fast...

Is this the norm for SL? or can I concentrate on contraction and form without going fast?

Those rows (with a violent jerk), squats going down and up so fast seems counter intuitive to me....

I would go for control over speed, and I take a pause at the top of the squat to breathe! although rows I do do fast - once you are set up properly, you want some explosive action or you'll get stuck!

I found when I do the bench presses fast (like in the SL videos), I don't feel it and am wanting to do more.. when I go slowly, I feel the workout and love it!

The squats, I hate, and don't care if I have to hurry to bang them out lol

Yah I am new to deadlifts and rows (well those types anyway)...I will most definately slow the rows down for a bit to make sure I have good form..

Visiting a trainer soon I hope to check on form and getting some mirrors in my new room.

good form is the first point to master, then you can get quicker

my strength coach is always trying to get me quicker, more explosive, more power lol

Good form is key. When lifting heavy speed is pretty irrelevant IMO - power is not. When I'm lifting heavy, I want to move the weight and not take forever to do so..because it's heavy (duh!). Now isolation lifts are a different story.

Is all of that going fast and jerking really necessary? I didn't think that you were supposed to jerk. Aren't the moves supposed to be smooth so that you don't pull something?

Don't worry about speed--worry about the weight on the bar and proper form. Once the weights get heavy enough, you cannot really do the lifts fast. I cannot account for why his videos are fast, but I suspect he is using lighter weights than he works with, in order to be able to display better form.

You should lift as quickly as you can with control and correct form. Correct form and control being>speed.
