Day Four

Good morning everyone!
Hope you've all woken up feeling motivated to get out there and keep succeeding with your goals.
I had a rough day yesterday and it was only day three. I pinpointed my issue was stress-related. I started out my day optimistic, but then, because I was so busy and overwhelmed at work, I wanted nothing other than a chocolate stout and some comfort food to relax after the day. I logged it and it won't affect my calories for yesterday or today, but it still bugs me that my first stress relief tactic was food and alcohol. That's a good way to realize why I have the issues I do with weight. Today I was hoping we could all throw in opinions of what our major triggers are that we've noticed and a good way to deal with them that isn't harmful.
Since I get home too late to be outside exercising, I could try the gym. I also don't like going there so late at night (midnight-1am ish)but it's an option. I could also have just gone upstairs to my bedroom with some tea because the chances of me coming back down to make a snack are very low.
Anyone else?

This was a great reminder for me also that even though my calories may look okay, I still didn't make great choices.

Well, don't beat yourself up too much, Miss Mac!

Your schedule definitely sounds like it's giving you a challenge... could you work out before you go to work? I wouldn't want you working out so late either. You need some down time before you go to bed and working out would only ramp you up more.

It's hard, but you can do it!

As for me, I didn't work out yesterday... it got way to busy for me to fit it in the schedule, so I will have to put some time aside on Saturday for me to get my 5 workouts in this week. I still have a "cushion" for time on Sunday if I have to, but I try to keep that as a total day of rest.

    Thank you :D
I usually workout during the day before work. In fact, I'm going to head there now and rid myself of this gross feeling.
I like to have Sundays and Wednesdays free because those are my boyfriend's days off and pretty much the only time we get to hang out for more than a 30 min lunch break and however late he can stay up when I get home.
It's rainy and dreary where I'm at, but I'm feeling good about a nice sweat before work today.
    Day four will be successful!

    Hey everyone! I'm Tiernan :)

Joining up a bit late, but you all sound so similar to me. This is actually my Day 9 of being back at MFP, and I'm still meeting goal calorie wise.

I'm going to make my weekly goal for September to exercise 3 times a week. Since it's already Thursday, I'm going to cut myself some slack (omg, NSVM! I'm always super hard on myself about everything). I want to get in at least one 30 minute session of exercise before next week.

I love what I've read from this group, I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together!
  • Hey Everyone,

I woke up having a really hard time today. So far I have stayed on track and have everything planned out, But as far as exercise it's just not happening. It's true my schedule has been crazy with the kids and all the back to school, dance and everything else, but it shouldn't be an excuse. I've only managed to work in one zumba class this week and it just has me feeling sad. :(

I am a super emotional eater. If I am happy, sad, mad, bored, etc I just want to stuff my face. The first thing I had to accept and face was the feeling of being hungry. The fact is I wasn't actually hungry, my body was just used to stuffing my face all the time. And I mean take out most of the time. I was/am addicted to it. I just crave it so bad some days that it would occupy my mind until I went and got it. Needless to say, I learned how to subside those cravings and now just make sure that I snack healthy during the day so I am not so hungry, and it worked! haha I rarely get cravings now and I find myself automatically turning to my fruits and veggies. Mind you I still eat take out, just not nearly as much as I am used to. My problem is making the same meals over and over to the point I get sick of eating. I need more variety and I need to up my water intake badly!

I'm not even really sure what my triggers are... I'm pretty sure stress plays a part, but I also wonder it if's boredom? I was eating whenever I wanted to and I wasn't even realizing it. Also, I have acid reflux issues and I think I was subconsciously eating to keep the acid down.

Knowing the triggers definitely helps combating mindless eating! Keep yourselves strong, everyone! We've got this!

In regards to my dislike for exercise, I would say my trigger for not exercising is finding the excuse that I am too busy with work and starting a business with my husband. I go through all of the excuses in my head and when those excuses win that day, it makes me feel like a loser. Usually the next day I manage to get in about 35 minutes of my yoga (which I really do love) which is good I guess. I know I can do more during the week.

How to deal with this? Hummm, well I guess stopping my train of thought would be the first step.

Boredom can definitely play a part, I think this is a common issue with most people. I have noticed a big difference since I have gone to a more whole foods approach to eating.

Exercise is def my issue too! So difficult with so much going on, which is why I told myself that my eating habits need to be damn near perfect if I'm not going to ex cerise everyday. That plan seems to be working, for right now.
  • If you want to increase your water intake try this, one cucumber, two lemons sliced thin and a handful of fresh mint leaves in a gallon of water. Let it sit in fridge overnight. I started doing this a couple of months ago and it's rare that I don't finish that whole gallon before bedtime. I do pee a lot but I suppose it's worth it :-)

I am an aniexty eater, it seems that I eat to stay in control? You know something I just thought of is how when we eAt for stress reasons we think we are rewarding ourselves? But. to me it's almost like a punishment it's like I have to stay fat because I wasn't perfect today.

My triggers are definitely stress and boredom eating.

I try to combat the stress eating by walking away or drinking a huge glass of water to fill myself up temporarily until the stress passes.

Boredom eating is harder, especially on weekend nights after the kids are in bed. I usually try to read, or just go to bed. If I have room left in my calories for the day I will always fill them up with stuff I really don't need to be eating. It's still pointless snacking, even though I technically have the room for it. Definitely still working on this one.

That sounds interesting, I will try that - thanks! :drinker:

I can definitely relate to this. I'm one of those people who wants to fix things and be in control, even when the situation isn't mine to handle. So having something I can control makes me feel better. Try focusing that on other things though. For me, I find any distraction that has an end goal, ie cleaning. I start cleaning, because I can control the outcome and it distracts me from the mind-racing thoughts that I might have otherwise. Planning events or activities helps too. Anything that has a distinct end that you can control the ending really. Don't know if that'd be useful for you or not, but this is something I've recently tried doing instead of focusing on eating.

I can't even say there is a trigger, I eat when I am upset, happy, busy, bored, it doesn't seem to matter I love junk food and need to find something else, water or exercise to love just as much

You know I haven't really thought of that before, I seem to default to food. I will have to try that! Thanks!
