Long Term Fasting Results & Transition?

Hi everybody! I'm really excited to be posting in this group- I've been a member since like April but only recently began a long term fast. Right now I'm on approx. day 9 of a 30-60 day juice fast. I'm more focused on weight goals than days so if I am where I want to be before the end of a 60 day fast than so be it.
The questions I have is primarily for those of you who have completed and/or know someone who has done so:
Was the weight-loss sustainable? Did you keep off the weight that you had lost (if not, how much did you re-gain before evening out again and beginning to lose with a new healthy lifestyle)? And how did you or how should one transition into eating solid foods again?
I'm getting more and more worried about how this is going to last seeing as every nay-sayer has said that you'll immediately put on the weight again (which I know cant be true if you truly do adapt a new, nutritionally balanced, and healthy lifestyle) but having some first-hand accounts of success and how they kept it off would really put my mind at ease, thanks!
Also not even going to attempt to post this on the public forum because people are extremely rude and misinformed out there, haha.

2 friends did a long juice feast for 100 days, they started Jan 1st this year! think it was April when they finished and transitioned into raw vegan following the 80/10/10 lifestyle. They both had a lot to lose (not as much as me haha) but had around 120-150lbs each to lose. They lost about 80lbs each on the juice feast. They were inspired by a couple on youtube their chanel is called "beyourpotential" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMQ33ikpD88 they did daily vlogs. There are other channels my friends were obsessed with too like the liferegenerator and other peoples vlogs who were doing juice feasts/juice fasts. (There are loads I have started watching some now)
What my friends did when they came off the juice was along the lines of this:
Day 1 transition = Juice with some pulp put back in plus a smoothie
Day 2 transition = Juices and smoothies and a small amount of soft fruit like a mango or peach etc...
Day 3 transition = Soft fruits
Day 4 transition = added in salads and stodgier fruits like bananas.
Then they started eating a proper raw vegan lifestyle starting off with about 1000 calories from fruit and veg for the first few days then slowly raising it every 3-4days till they got up to (they say) about 3000 calories a day from fruit and veg (they say you need more calories when it's just fruit and veg) They have lost all their extra weight now and it has been about 3months since they came of their juice feast.
I was very dubious about the whole thing in the beginning... I am now totally convinced! I am starting a juice feast on Wednesday, my friends have given me loads of info and are going to drop off lots of recipes for me this week, I already have a juicer (a cheapo one) so just need pay day to come to go get some things to juice haha... I'm not going 100 days no way, I am aiming for 10 see how it goes if it goes okay I may do 30 and when I finish I will be following in their footsteps and going raw vegan as a lifestyle.
I guess as long as you come off your feast slowly, slowly adding in solids over a few days and gradually building your calories up and eating a healthy balanced diet (not running down to the take away for a celebratory pig out) you should be fine?? I'm no expert though... I'm just going off my friends success on it, they went from being really overweight and unfit to slim and active/fit, they're training for a half marathon (think it's in September?) I still can't get my head round it... How much they have achieved in 7months... Crazy... I have over 200lbs to lose and everything else has failed, I've tried pretty much everything over the years (I will lose weight the first week or 2 then gain it back and more) and I have an underactive thyroid which probably hasn't helped things... So it's worth a shot, see what happens, my doc has told me to go for it and if it doesn't feel right to stop...
God luck with the rest of your juice fast keeps us posted how it goes! xx0 -
Thanks so much for sharing that with me - its so awesome that they archieved so much from simply juicing and eating right ill be sure to post back on here once I finish my juice feast (still not sure how long I'll be doing it) and I wish you the best of luck too- pass on my congrats to your friends as well!!0

Hi, I just joined this group. I recently did a 30 day juice fast for the first time ever and lost 15 lbs. My biggest concern was also if the weight would come back, its been a month and a half since I ended my fast and my weight has stayed consistent. Some days it might fluctuate 1-2 pounds but I suppose its normal. After my fast I ate only vegetarian meals for a whole week which I've read is a very important factor. I am considering doing another fast next week but this time only 7 days0

I'm finishing a juice fast this week. I'm on Day 20 and I've lost an AMAZING 14 pounds. Amazing because for me weight loss has been VERY slow, and to loose 5 in 3 months has been an accomplishment in the past few years. I'm going to transition back starting Thursday of this week by eating one vegan meal per day.
The hardest part has been that I didn't want to do social things and explain why I wasn't eating at all. I really didn't want people to think it was weird.
But... it's been BY FAR the most effective thing I've tried for weight loss since finding MFP in 2009. (I lost 30 lbs then but have been stuck in a fluctuating 10 lb range that has very slowly inched down over the past 3 years) but my word it's been frustrating! Becoming vegan helped tilt the scale a bit, but I needed something extreme.0 -
I'll just chime in as the new sloth in town.... with my ( limited ) experience. While most mainstream MFP people like to deny that they are 'dieting...' and prefer to call it a lifestyle change.... some of the dictionary definitions of diet would indicate that we are all 'on a diet...'
a : food and drink regularly provided or consumed
b : habitual nourishment
Regardless of whether it is calorie restricted or not.... and further to that... IMHO, anyone who is eating at a caloric deficit, is definitely, 'dieting.'
So, again, IMHO..... anyone who enters into a 'diet' plan with the goal of losing weight, needs an exit strategy, or as the MFP mainstreamers all say.... is 'doomed to fail.'
That said... I saw Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, and soon after had a little health scare, and ran out and bought a juicer and all kinds of fruits and vegetables that I couldn't even name. I quickly got the hang of what I liked and didn't like, and managed a straight juice binge for 10 days. While I found that 'emotionally' I felt great... physically, I did feel a bit weak, but it wasn't anything I couldn't' handle.
10 days was about all I could take, I'd already started to CRAVE salads and nuts, of all things... so, I added them back into my diet. I've been slowing transitioning to a diet that I can handle more long term, as time goes on. I got within about 10 lbs of my first goal weight, and I knew the last 10 lbs weren't gonna fall off as fast as the 1st 30 did... so, even as my ticker sits at '0 pounds lost...' day after day... I'm fine with that for now... I can make further adjustments over time, and figure out how to keep the scale moving down, no matter how slowly. Remember, I am a sloth.
So... short story long.... if I recall your original question.... to me, it's ALL about the transition. If your mind is set on 30 days, or 60 days, or whatever... you can do that. What you do AFTER that, is just as important. Joe Cross would appear to be doing some juice, ( it may be more for appearances than anything else, who knows? ) and eating FAR more healthy than he ever did before. In a Tweet, someone asked him how Phil the truck driver was doing, and Joe said that Phil has gone back up to around 300 lbs, and struggles with his weight every day. That to me, was very telling.... that one of the principals in his ode to juicing, dropped mega, and then, gained half of it back. ( after the cameras stopped rolling ) Now, this, to me, isn't a reason NOT to juice.... it's simply a huge warning, that dropping a *kitten*-ton of weight, by juicing doesn't really solve anything, if you don't have the follow-up plan to actually make a lifestyle change.... which in the end, is what we're all here for, isn't it?
I dunno if that helps, but it made me feel better.
