Stroller Stress

I had no idea picking one out would be so complicated.

We want:
--A high quality stroller (we're willing to pay a premium for it)
--Starts for 1 child but can add on another seat to carry 2 children (so by default it would be front/back not side by side)
--Somewhat rugged but no need for trail capability....we have a bike carrier unit that is also a stroller (but too big to take to indoor places).

We've found the Uppababy Vista & Baby Jogger City Select to be the front runners so far.
I don't like the bassinette feature of the Uppababy. Also, for two kids they both have to rear facing. The world is too beautiful for them to be looking at my husband or I all the time!!
I found the City Select to be cumbersome to fold up and a little more awkward to carry.

Are there other options that I'm missing? The guys at Buy Buy Baby tried, but they honestly weren't much help.

While this is what we're leaning towards....if I heard RAVING reviews of a less expensive stroller I'd gladly check it out. But we really hope to have a second child and would love one that can accommodate that.

That's tough. We're having our second right now, but when were expecting our first we bought the Safety 1st Travel system, complete with infant seat, base, and jogger stroller. The stroller allowed for the carseat to snap in while baby was too little to sit in it the regular way. I love this system and it was only $200 at target. While the baby is little I am going to continue only using this stroller with the baby in a wrap.
Jogging and pushing 1 kid is hard enough, I'm not going to jog and push 2! However there is a double jogger in our future when the girls are older.

Are you pregnant with your first or second?

It really depends on the age difference between the children. I had my second when my first was 2 weeks shy of 2. I bought the Graco Quattro Duo, it was nice but it was pretty bulky and my older child was pretty much too big for the front seat about a year later.

My 2nd and 3rd will be 3.5 years apart so my 3-year-old won't need a stroller all of the time, but I would like to take them on walks and for her to have the option to sit if she wants. I read rave reviews so I bought the Joovy Caboose SIt N'Stand. I wish I would've bought it the first time as it is much lighter. If your kids are closer in age it has an extra attachment you can purchase that makes the back a "full" back seat.

Thanks ladies, I'm going to check those out!!

We're currently pregnant with #1 (due 12-6) and intend to get pregnant again ASAP. We're an IVF couple and as soon as our specialist will do so, we're going to try with one of our frozen embryos. If I had things my way, they'd be no more than 18 months apart.

I certainly do not want to buy a double now, but want the option of converting down the road. I'd hate to have to buy another (double) in a year or two. Our friends ended up with 9 (!!!) various strollers for their 2 children, 2 years apart.

One of the nicer Joovy Caboose strollers might work... you can buy an extra infant-size seat for the back and it would be a sit and stand for when the older is a good age for that. It would not pass for a single stroller in any sense of the word... but it's what I have my eye on right now, with littles that are going to be 2 yrs 3 mos apart.

I think the hardest to find feature is going to be the single with an option to double, unless you like the style where the older child sits underneath. I honestly think you'll still use a single stroller with two closely spaced children, so I don't think it will be a total loss if you end up with a couple of strollers.

We're heading into our 5th in 12 days and the closest thing to a double we've ever owned is a sit n stand. I didn't even buy a stroller for our oldest until he was 8ish months old. It was winter when he was born so we weren't walking anywhere. lol I bought the sit n stand when I was pregnant with our third. I had a 3yr old, 18 mo, and newborn. I wore the baby in a wrap and the older two boys used the sit n stand. The single we got was an inexpensive graco. We are still using it regularly almost 8yrs later.

The Britax B-Ready Stroller has the option to buy a second seat and convert it into an inline. It is compatible with the Britax Chaperone Infant seat.

I got a Peg Perego ($500), I can face baby forward or backward depending on my mood, the seat removes to attach the carseat, it drives like a Cadillac, I can steer it through the most crowded store with one hand. One finger even. I just love it. It has an attachment for an older child to ride standing between/behind the handlebars. I did not get it since my older kids are too old not to use their own feet, so I'm not sure how well it works, but judging from all the other Perego products I own I'm sure it's all it is cracked up to be as well! When my older kids were young (they're 7 and 10 now) I tried double strollers and couldn't maneuver them through stores. I tried the side by side and the in line styles and was never happy. I take this one through the mall and also around the neighborhood. happy hunting!

I have a 2 month old and an Uppa Baby Vista. have to say that I use the bassinet feature MUCH more than I thought I would. I lay him in it when we go for walks around the neighborhood, which is almost every day. So definitely worth it to us to have the bassinet. Also, the storage basket is HUGE and great for running errands. A lot of times I won't get a shopping cart at Target or the grocery store - I'll just throw stuff in the basket. And you can add components for kid #2. I don't know how great it would be for trails though. I have a BOB for running and it's MUCH better on rough surfaces than the UBV.

That's the one suggested to us by some friends. They loved it for 1 child, but despised it for 2 (oddly, they didn't tell me this....I learned it when I read a review on amazon written by the husband!). I'm not too concerned about the trails. It'd be nice if it was easy to use on some of the cobblestone/brick streets we frequent, but we do have a heavy-duty bike trailer than converts to a stroller so it's not a deal breaker for me.

It is silly, I know, to base our decision on the fact that we'd like to have another child pretty quickly, but with the cost of these things I'd rather buy something that has the potential to accommodate 2 kids rather than having to buy another system in a short time frame. We found the Baby Jogger City Select (our current front-runner) on Craigs List last night for a steal and--of course--it was gone by the time I emailed the seller. Ugh.

I think I'll add this one to my list of daily searches on Craigs List. Looks pretty similar to the City Select we've been looking at! Is it wonderful??

Just looked this one up on amazon. Way less expensive than the ones we've been looking at, and it seems to have good reviews! Thanks for the suggestion. Hubby is researching it now too!
