Crossfit musings

I see some posts about the scale not moving down when starting Crossfit. I'm thinking that Crossfit is not a weight-loss workout the way we traditionally think of working out. I want to share a recent post by the owner of my box about his sister who has been doing Crossfit for about a year. For me it confirmed that Crossfit changes your body but won't necessarily make the scale go down.
"A little less than a year ago my sister, Delana, started training with Coach Miles, her son, at the East box. Since that time, she has drastically changed her health and body. She did her first crossFit competition and did great! She says she hasn't lost a lot of weight, but watching her train this morning she looks like the same person in a different body. She is a great example of what a masters athlete can do if they put their mind to it! She will reach an age milestone next year, I won't tell you what that is but she is older than me, and she definitely doesn't look her age. Keep up the good work sis!"

Great story. I am the same way. I've been doing CF for 12 weeks now and have only lost maybe 10 lbs (on a good day), but have lots tons of inches all over. My body shape is changing and I'm getting stronger, but the scale isn't really budging. I'm to the point where I don't really care though bc I LOVE CF and it has helped my arthritic knees and bad back like nothing else ever has.0

I've been doing Crossfit since early May. I started in the beginning 2-3 times per week, but I'm now trying to push to 3-4. I've notice some scale movement, especially when I keep clean paleo. Problem is that life gets in they way and I derail from the paleo tracks and the scale will slide up a few lbs.
However, I have noticed more that my clothes fit so much better. My stomach's leaner, and even though I'm still "fluffly" I'm starting to see some muscle definition.
A CF friend of mine sent me this link of a bunch of women's before and after crossfit pictures. If anything, let these ladies be an inspiration of what can be achieved.

I weight myself daily, but only because I'm exceedingly curious about how my weight varies especially between right before I go to bed and when I wake up.
My overall weight didn't drop at all until we started our Paleo challenge. I dropped about 14 lbs the first week and it's held pretty steady since. Had a bad lunch yesterday (pizza...brownies) and put back 2 lbs, but I expect it will drop off today. Also cutting calories a bit by adding large servings of spinach (mixed with adobo, poblanos, onions)0 -
I weigh myself daily also and like many of you I have not seen any real decrease but I have seen body changes. My chest and arms especially are bigger (and sexier ladies!) :laugh:0

Those that are losing on strict Paleo, do you also count calories here? I was doing a pretty strict Paleo diet before I started CF, but never really saw any results. I've been watching what I eat for a long time now, so it wasn't a huge shock to my system to switch over to Paleo. It was just cutting out side items here and there, but overall I'd say my calorie level was about the same.0

I'm trying to stay within my TDEE by 20%. I wasn't counting calories at first while doing paleo, and I then realized that I was eating waaaaay too little. My calories would end up being around 800-900. So, now I do, but it's to make sure that I'm eating enough.

I've gained about 10lbs since starting Crossfit, but that's because I was a skinny fat, calorie restricting cardio junkie before I started.
Now my arms, legs, and midsection are toned, and I have a nice booty from all the squats. My clothes still fit except for the occasional long sleeve shirts, but I look better than ever. I think the scale is the worst way for documenting progress when starting Crossfit. I focus on measurements and PRs!0 -

Oh yeah, I have noticed that my butt is looking pretty shapely these days as well!0 -

@ ascrit - you're sexy and you know it... you workout!0 -
Hahaha. I laugh so I don't cry. Lol.
I've been doing CF for 3 months and overall, the scale is up half a lb. I eat strict paleo, count my cals and stay at TDEE minus 10%, and...no scale movement. However, I can see changes all over, and I'm down 1.5-2 clothing sizes.
I'm trying to give up my scale dependence. It's hard for me because I'm pretty positive I can't get to my clothing size goal at this weight. My gains in the gym have been HUGE lately, though, so...meh. I don't know. I love CF too much to stop doing it, so...suck it up, buttercup.0 -

I also think I'm getting bit more booty. With all the squatting and full body movements it would be impossible not to gain.
I need it too, because I still have a tiny *kitten*.0 -
I've been doing Crossfit for about 2 months and yeah, the scale has gone up, not down. I'm not worried about it though because, like others have said, my clothes are fitting better and I can see changes in my body when I look in the mirror. I still like weighing myself, just to know where I am, but I'm thinking I may have to adjust my goal weight in my head to compensate for the muscle I'll add now that I'm not just a cardio bunny.0
