Metformin - Tiredness

Hi all,
I have been put on Metformin 500mg once a day though I go up to two a day from today. I have found since I started taking them that I seem to be completely out of energy. I just feel exhausted all the time. Has anyone else suffered with this and is it something that is likely to go away once my body is used to it? Luckily havent had any of the other side effects so far save for feeling sick.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

I have, but I didn't associate it with Metformin. I think Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can be associated with PCOS and I noticed that my doctor noted chronic fatigue on my medical records, so I have always thought it was that. Unfortunately I haven't done much research about it so I can't provide any additional info. I did just Google "Metformin and Fatingue" and there seems to be a lot of people wondering/complaining about it, you might want to check it out. Also, be sure to tell your doctor if this is something new that you are experiencing.
Hope you can regain some energy soon!0 -
I haven't noticed any fatigue affects on Metformin. I got the nasea and vomitting for a while which wasn't nice. It all settled after several weeks though. It might be a short term side affect while your body gets used to it. Talk to your doctor about it for sure!0

Thank you both for taking the time to respond. It may be that I am run down anyway, I am going to give it a couple more weeks and if I am still bad will speak with the Doctor as I have to go back anyway to get more tablets after a month.
I started on two a day yesterday and had bad stomach ache all last night :-( I hope its all going to be worth it in the end and it settles down shortly.
Thanks again for responding.

I jsut started taking it too and I go up to 1000mg today too. I haven't had much fatique really not that I attributed to metformin at least, and never got sick or vomitted, but I have had diarhea for a week now, and I think that might be a side effect...not sure though. Anyone have that happen? I think you should call your doctor and just check on it though. At least he/she will be able to put your mind at ease.0

I'm on 850mg twice a day (1700mg a day). I started straight onto it instead of easing on. Got really bad stomach cramps, vomitting, diarhea, etc. Lasted more then a couple of weeks so i talked to the phamisist and changed brands of Metformin. Within a few days it had all settled down. Ended up being a reaction to one of the added chemicals in the brand i was first taking. It should settle after 2 weeks but if it continues after that i would talk to your doctor or phamisist about it.0

You might want to have your blood levels checked for a thyroid disorder.0
