My biggest fear - besides dying young from fat- is heights and insects I am seriously such a suck! I can't even stand on a kitchen chair (even when I was smaller) and if anything tiny moves I scream like a scaredy cat! Gosh forbid anything fly near me! This is why I think I live somewhere colder.
I also fear change that's what inspired today's post I applied for a new position at my work and I have made myself sick over it!
I like my comfort zone!

So I don't stand on chairs, I keep big spray handy all summer and I am using positive self talk to help get through the job thing! Interview was today so the worst part is over!

What your biggest fears that are not fat related

Well, hello :) I'm Ignaura from the Dominican Republic. My first language is Spanish, so I apologize in advance if my English doesn't make any sense. I can barely speak it properly :P

I'm afraid of heights. Not as much as Holly, but I can't look down when on a high floor balcony. Flying stress the F out me. I hate it, hate it, hate it! Which is sad because I love traveling. But planes are just.... horrible. I' afraid of not being able to fight for my life if something goes wrong, so I don't sleep on the plane, or before the flight. I have found myself awake for almost 24 hours: 8 hours on a plane and the many hours before flying.

I scared of everything that flies (from butterflies to pigeons). I used to be afraid of dogs, but my dog-lover boyfriend has helped me a lot to overcome it.

    So, that's me :)

Hi, I'm Nixie. Which is a nickname most of my family calls me.

I'm terrified of speaking my own mind and opinions, in case people don't like me. Don't get me wrong... I'm not a wimp. My feelings just get easily hurt. So I'm very selective what I say about myself.
I'm also scared of some heights. I detest ladders or wobbly chairs. I can't stand the bleachers at football games or standing on a steep hill. I get vertigo and feel like I'm losing my balance. But I have no problems with balconies or airplanes or even sitting on the roof of a garage. LOL! But just see me trying to get off the roof onto a ladder.

Add me to the fear-of-heights club! I can't be up on anything I can see through, so no stairs where you can see down to the level below you, ditto bridges with cracks between the boards, or those metal grate stairs, or balconies, or anything really high. I can be at the height of a chair or a bench, I sometimes stand on my bench outside to reach things. I could not go on a roof or a ladder. Hills oddly enough are just fine, I think because I can't see through them. Suspension bridges are the worst, and escalators unless they are completely enclosed.

I don't like spiders or bugs but have gotten to where I can swat or squish them as required. And only some bugs - fruit flies, lady bugs, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, those are all fine. It's the nasty biting or stinging bugs, or spiders, because spiders are just icky. I saw a jumping one the other day when I was outside and I had to go inside because I didn't know where it went!

I used to be afraid of speaking in front of a group, but then I worked in tourism while I was in university, and that fear went away after a few shifts of announcing the IMAX films :) Microphone, check. Spotlight on me, check. 200 people to talk to? OHSH... this isn't so bad. And then it was fun. ...don't see that working with looking at spiders though!

That was nice to read, i hate when people make fun of me for being scared of bugs, I see I'm not alone! Ignaura you make perfect sense :) Spanish is such a beautiful language! I barely speak good English most days though so one language is enough for me!
I have yet to talk myself into a plane, but I love to travel! I once took a bus 36 hours so I didn't have to fly! Next time I will fly

Nixie, I understand what you mean about speaking out, I don't like confrontation and will often choose to avoid it, but my position at work has taught me to just go for the gold! I will still avoid it if I can though. I do think though that it is often a practice in self control. Mostly my dislike on confrontation is about hurting other people though i never want to be the cause of someone's hurt feelings so I avoid those.

Cary I would have been out of there too if I had lost a jumping spider! The guys at work tease me all the time because I make them come into my office and get the spiders!

I really enjoy getting to know people outside of weight loss :)

I'm just avoiding pouring my fears out on Holly's thread. Snakes are bad enough, but posting real fears on a thread is just too scary!

Wait, did I just post that, oh, how humiliating.... :embarassed:

Hehehe dward. I know lots of people who are snake-o-phobic. I forget the real word :ohwell:

Holly - when you do fly, ask for an aisle seat, or if it's a really big plane, a seat in the middle section. Once you are actually up in the air it's not much different than being in a bus :) I'm horrible with heights but just fine in a plane, odd I know.

I'm claustrophobic and suffer from social anxiety so being trapped in a box with some people I don't know would be bad times :P

I am not scared of "heights" I'm scared of falling off! So if I'm up high in a protected building I'm fine, On the edge of a cliff not so much... I, like Cary also used to have a fear of public speaking, but I got a job as a concierge on Maui where I have to do an island breakfast orientation every week! At first it was a little rocky but now it does'nt bother me at all! Kind of a big victory for me because I have had this fear all of my life! Not really scared of bugs just dont like them, snakes and spiders are totally out of the question!
