Lo Carb anyone?

I've been tossing around the idea that maybe carbs are what is causing me to not lose. I'm not a huge meat eater, but I can do stuff like chicken on a regular basis. I love the carbs though, but I don't think they love me, lol! I've read about a lo carb eating plan called Dukan, and from what I understand it's not as fat loving as Atkins. It's 5-7 days on the first phase of protein only, and then you stay on a rotating diet of one day protein only, the next day protein and veggies (mostly leafy greens, but I think all non starchy ones are ok). Once you reach your goal weight you then start adding back stuff like fruits and grains, but like one day a week is protein only. Sounds confusing, but I've read people's results and they're impressive. I did a lot of googling last night for info not on their website because of course they're gonna praise it to high heaven. Anyhoo...anyone ever heard of this, or had lo carb success?

About how many grams of carbs are you eating each day now? And how low would the diet require you to go?
I've never really tried (for any length of time) to go low carb. I know that if you do cut out bread/pasta whatever, you can lose some lbs pretty easily/quickly, but I believe that most of that is water weight. So, if you did low carb for a long time, you would probably lose a lot of weight, but then when you start eating carbs again...
I know eventually you will start adding the carbs back in, but idk it just seems like it would be hard to stay low carb for an extended amount of time.
I know with any diet that requires you to basically cut out whole food groups like grains/fruit, some people are going to say that's not good, but I think sometimes you might have to do something like this to get your weight loss momentum going. And then you can decide where you should go from there.0 -
Funny you should mention this. A friend of mine recently did the first two phases of the Dukan diet and dropped 4kg in like the first week. She doesn't really keep up with it though anymore. I don't know what she weighs, but she didn't have much to lose in the first place... This isn't really helpful is it...
I did South Beach diet like 10 years ago and I lost a bunch of weight at first, like 15lbs, but then I missed bread and pasta and rice (can't ask an Asian girl to give up rice!!!) so I packed it all on and more over the years. I mean, any diet will work if you stick with it right? But to me a fully low-carb diet just wasn't sustainable.
Nowadays I still eat rice and stuff but I portion it out, I'm surprised how satisfied I can be with just half a cup. Recently I've tried adding more protein (IIFYM and all that) and I dunno if it's a fluke but my stomach DEFINITELY feels flatter. I'm also more mindful of eating carbs, making better choices, etc. For me a gradual change like this makes more sense, is more sustainable and doesn't "shock" your body-- I've heard horror stories about people being legit depressed and angry due to not eating carbs!0 -
Not sure how many carbs I actually eat in a day, but when I look at my daily info it shows my diet is like half carbs everyday, lol! I think I'm going to start Monday with the first phase and then go from there. I don't know if I can follow it to the T for the second phase but I need to see for myself if cutting down the carbs makes a difference. I can't see giving up the good stuff for the rest of my life, but I definitely need a jump start. If I can make it to Thanksgiving on this plan and actually see a difference in the scale, I'll probably tweak it to work with real life.
I have noticed when I don't eat a lot of grains or pasta or whatever, that I don't get that bloated feeling. There for awhile it seems like I stayed bloated because we did lots of pasta this summer. And margaritas, that didn't help much either, lol!0
