Not Sore?

I know I'm working really hard in the gym. I'm following my program and increasing the weights. I'm making sure I'm lifting the heaviest weight I possibly can for each lift...and it's friggin hard!

But, I'm not sore. I mean, my tush is a little tender, but aside from that, I barely feel like I did anything. Is it possible I'm not pushing myself enough? Or is that good?

TBH, I don't think it means anything. I have heard it repeated ad naseum that DOMS is not indicative of a good/hard workout. I don't get sore during my normal workouts, but when I change anything, I get sore. Case in point - went from doing 2x5 and 2x10 on deadlifts with no soreness, to a deload workout of 4x10 deads and BAM! sore.

    I've heard that as well...

I'm increasing my weights, so I guess it's all good. I'm just feeling fat and like I'm not doing enough. I'll try to chill LOL.

This is an idea thrown around by many unknowledgable fitness people that if you're not sore you're not going hard enough. It simply is not true. Some peoples bodies have quick response and recovery times and others don't. I'm not always sore but I will be damned if someone tells me I didn't work hard enough if I can walk after leg day. I simply tell them to do my workout and report back. It usually shuts people up. As you said, you're increasing weights and getting stronger. That's success.

I agree with the other ladies, the absence of DOMS doesn't mean you didn't work hard enough. The only time I get DOMS now is if I do a completely different exercise or machine. :flowerforyou:

Great point--I was sore the first day after each A and B of my new routine, but not since.

No worries- I think it's pretty normal. I'm progressing on my lifts as well and I'm *slightly* sore for a few hours after, then nothing. The only time I ever really got DOMS was back in the days of doing one of those dumb "lift this 3lb dumbbell 400 times" videos. :)

Yeah if i change up something, a new lift, or switching reps/sets or something i will get sore. i dont always get sore simply by adding weight to a lift i do regularily. I also think that taking some suppliments helps recovery soreness, like the BCAA's. I've heard you dont have to get sore for a good workout also. and i asked my trainers and they said even if i dont feel it, i'm tearing fibers.

I don't think it means much. I can never predict when I'm going to be sore from a workout. It does seem that lighter weight / higher rep days seem to create more soreness than heavy lifting days. No matter. Just make your best effort during your workouts, and keep progressing- that's how you can make sure you'll get results!

Same here, I get sore from unusual activity. My workout seldom makes me sore, except sometimes when I'm doing it and up to an hour or two later. But my glutes are burning up after a day of painting baseboards and a day of replacing electrical outlets.

I feel like I'm not doing enough all the time, too. I'm used to doing SO MANY sets and various exercises 6 days a week, that I feel like I am a slacker doing only 4-5 exercises with 2-4 sets. My body takes a LOT longer to recover now, though. I just feel weak and depleted a day or two after my lifts. Keep it up ladies!
