Rate of turning into a zombie

Doesn't it seem like corpses are turning into Walkers a lot faster than earlier seasons? Andrea's sister took hours, like overnight, to turn. Now it seems like people turn within 30 minutes or even less. I know it can take hours or minutes, according to the CDC doctor, but the rate of transitioning seems to be increasing.
Also, why do people turn from a non-fatal bite by a zombie? The living are all infected anyway according to the CDC. So why would a non-fatal bite make live human beings Walkers when living with the virus/infection doesn't turn them? If I get bitten on the arm by a Walker, and it's not a wound that's going to kill me, why would it turn me into a zombie all of a sudden? Isn't that what happened with Hershel. He got bitten, but why did Rick HAVE to cut off his leg?

Interesting and valid points.
Per Hershel's leg though. If you were going through an event like this, and you know that people used to turn after a bite, possibly killed by the virus that ultimately turned them, wouldn't you have removed the limb of your friend as well? Especially since he was the closest thing to a doctor you had in the group?
I can't recall when they figured out that they were all now walking carriers of the virus but wasn't Hershel's leg before that time?
With everyone being a carrier these days, that may effect the rate of change after death. On the other hand, it could be just to keep the show moving along. An excellent question for Talking Dead I think.0 -
I agree. Shane seemed to turn much faster and its been since then that they turn faster. Maybe something to do with the virus itself? I to think its an excellent question for the Talking Dead0

Love these questions OP... They probably wouldn't answer them though, cause the creators/writers probably don't even know. Lol. Maybe somehow exposing the virus through an open wound initiates the zombie turning process? And the virus surely has changed since it's arrival, so quicker turns? I have no clue, but I'd love to know0

They don't die from the zombie "virus" when they get bit. They die from some other sort of sickness/infection from the bite. Then once they die from it, the zombie "virus" that they are carrying, reanimates the person sometime thereafter.
Hershel's leg was cut off after it was established they are all infected. But Rick also knew that bites kill, for whatever reason. So that's why he amputated.
Lastly, I don't think there is any real evidence that the speed of reanimation seems to be getting any shorter on the whole. We don't know the amount of time between Shane being stabbed and him coming back. Those who are dying from illness in the prison do seem to have come back inconveniently quickly but I think that was more just for plot. Those episodes wouldn't have amounted to much if everyone who was dying took hours to turn after death. They would have been disposed of before any calamity occurred otherwise. I accept that I could be wrong on this, though. No telling where the writers are going with it.0
