Ok everyone here is the challenge!

This weeks challenge for us is going to be 3 parts

Part 1) AS A TEAM - answer the ten multiple choice questions listed here. You should discuss on your team thread and then one member should post your teams answers here (or in a PM to me if you prefer)
Part 2) AS AN INDIVIDUAL - answer at least one trivia question in the main thread, and post a new one. PLEASE make sure you are responding to the last question asked and make reference to that question in your response, then post a new question of your own for someone to asnwer.

For example:
AprilStar480 posts : "How many teaspoons of sugar does a typical can of soda have?"
I repond " A can of soda has 10 teaspoons of sugar. Next question: True or false, You should wait until you are hungry to eat?"
TamBam72 "False, waiting until you are hungry could result in skipping meals which triggers your body to hold on to fat and burn fewer calories. Next Question: How many calories will a person burn if they walk 1 mile on flat ground, at 3 miles per hour, and they weigh 200 pounds? A. 110 B. 200 C. 400

Get it? Good

Part 3) The challenge on the show had everyone worrying about how they are going to balance work and workouts once they get home (the losers had to work in a diner all week instead of spending it in a gym) This is a problem most of us face as there just isnt enough time in the day to get everything done. The physical challenge this week is to complete the 'workout at work" found in this link http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/health/workout-at-work/ This has a total of 12 exercises that you can do anywhere. No, they dont have to be done at work necessarily, but they could. They could also be done while you are watching TV, waiting at the bus stop for your kids, cooking dinner, riding the elevator, even talking on the phone. They can all be done fairly quickly, involve some cardiovascular exercise, and could have weights added in if you wanted for an extra kick. The point of this exercise is that there is always some type of exercise that you can fit in even if you only have 20 seconds. If you have the option to do this at work, I strongly suggest you try it - Sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day can have bad effects on your body (sore back and neck anyone?) and just a few moments of activity and stretching can help to remedy hours of sitting there

Challenge summary
1)as a team answer the 10 quesations posted in the main thread - one rep for each team shoudlo post the answers
2)individually post one trivia answer and a new question for the next person in the main thread
3) complete the "workout at work" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/health/workout-at-work/

Im working on the spreadsheet and can hopeully have the stats from this week and last up soon!

Oh man, I just did this whole thing.. Question 1 - 10 between my patients and when I hit reply, it said to re-sign in and I lost it all :(

Whooo, I was able to back page and copy and paste it in new thread. Whew, that was a lot of research I did. Didn't want or have time to do it again.

ok, what I found by googling is:

    1.) BMI Question is (B-30)

2.) Gaining weight back. Everything I read said 95% and one said 80%, so I would go with 90% since there is no 95%

3.) Obesity can cause all except Crohn's. From all I know on this it is an Autoimmune diseases and genetic's (gene's) that cause this disease. Most crohn's patients are not over weight, but they could be, but obesity is not the cause of Crohn's

4.) Memory drop /BMI (A-1pt) here is a link to what I read this on http://www.marilu.com/category/memory/ (this is from the article on that link____ "Research has shown that obese people have an impaired ability to recall life events, such as a 2010 study from Northwestern Medicine that links memory loss to weight. A larger study funded by the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, showed a one-point drop in memory score for each BMI point increase in a woman’s weight"

5.) Asthma (D-Vitamin A) Here is the web link http://asthma.about.com/od/asthmacam/a/asthma_diet.htm and here is part of the article ____ Vitamin A and Beta-carotene: Like the other vitamins discussed, vitamin A and beta-carotene are thought to have antioxidant properties that may improve inflammation in asthma.

6.) Fertility/obese (E- all of the above). I read where all A-D were reasons for infertility in a few articles.

7.) (A-1) From different articles on google, Obesity is the number 1 cause in the USA for preventable deaths

8.) 300lb's (not real sure on this one, but from what I can gather on the web-google, it would be (C-25 to 30lbs)

9.)Childred 5-10yrs old (B-heart disease) This was on biggiest loser last season and I am pretty sure it was heart disease

10.) Obese adults. (this one is hard, I get all kinds of answers, from 1/3 of adults, 35.8 %, to 2/3 of adults to 50%. Most sites say 1/3 or 2/3's for adults or So???? a third of a hundred would be 33.3, 2/3'rs would 66.7% so no clue what to pick?

The individual part of the challenge is in the main thread. That is where you post a new question.

I think we are to do all 12 exercises for however long it is stated per exercise. For example, we have to do 20 reps for for the 1st exercise Raise the roof.

There are 12 exercises from the video:

    1) Raise the roof (20 reps)
While marching in place, push toward the ceiling with your palms up and thumbs almost touching your shoulders. Make it harder by holding water bottles.

    2) Triceps kick (20 reps)
While marching in place, bend at the hips, about 45 degrees. Bend your elbows, then extend them behind you as if you are lifting weights.

    3) The Hulk (20 reps)
Keep marching and leaning. With your elbows bent and fists together in front, move your arms back like wings. Try to touch your shoulder blades together.

    4) Hamstring curl (20 reps)
Bend arms at the elbow. Bring one foot up toward your rear end while straightening your arms so that your hands are down when your foot is up.

    5) Knee lift (20 reps)
Just like hamstring curls, except you lift your knee
up in front as your arms go down.

    6) Hallelujah (20 reps)
Sweep arms above your head and down again as you step side-to-side. Actually yelling ''Hallelujah!'' is optional.

    7) Punching (20 reps)
While rocking foot to foot, punch with alternating arms. To reduce elbow stress, try not to fully straighten your arm.

    8) Desk pushup (10 reps)
Place hands on edge of desk, shoulder width apart, legs out behind you. Push off with as much force as you can.

    9) Side lunge (10 per side)
Take a big step to one side. Point toes forward and bend one knee, keeping other leg straight. Push back up.

    10) Jump squats (10 reps)
Make sure you have space in front of you. Bend into a half-squat with your arms behind you, then jump and swing your arms up as if you're celebrating.

    11) Chair dips (10 reps)
With your legs out in front of you, grab the edge of a chair (or desk) and lift yourself down and back up. At the end, you'll be conveniently back in your seat

    12) Walking (10 min.)
Lap your block or a floor of your office. Try for a pace of 100 steps per minute, which is easy if you don't stop to play with tchotchkes on other people's desks.

    Hope this helps....

I did the exercises at home and Im going for the walk now. I could not see myself doing these exercises at work unless I was in an office where no one could see me lol

Since, Im unable to do the jump squats and lunges, I did 30 regular squats instead.

    Challenges for the Week:
    ~Individual-Complete
    ~Video-Complete
~Group-will work on it this weekend

Ok, I have completed all 3 challenges.
1.) I did my answer to question and new question on main board
2.) I did my part on the 10 questions for us to answer with our team (It gave me something to do between patients at work  )
3.) I completed the video of exercises to do at work. I was not able to do these at work. I did do the push up one off the bathroon sink Thurs night, but re-did the whole video here at home. There was no way I could do these in my office. I have to look professional at all times and you never know when a patient is going to walk in the door.

It didn't take that long to do the video. I wasn't sure how to post it as my exercise here on MFP so I just listed it as circuit training. It didn't take me the whole 30 minutes I posted, but I did other stuff to get a full 30 minutes of exercise in.

Hope everyone else is doing great and enjoying their weekend.

P.S. I really really love reading all the questions and answers on the main page. I am learning very important info from this challenge. :)

If you don't have time to do these or it just is not practical (job wise), just look up the web site. Then jot down on paper what you need to do, It is really easy stuff over all. Then you can do it at home. You can even break it up in littler exercises through out the day even.
