no cardio

Hi everyone,
I have only been doing stronglifts 3 times a week with a bit of cardio on tues and thurs.
These are my current figures. I started SL in July:
squats - 170lbs
Bench - 96.25lbs
Row - 117lbs
OHP - 75lbs
Deadlift - 150lbs
Now, there's this girl I know that goes to the same gym as me and she has a personal trainer. he is pretty fit and according to most ppl, he is pretty knowledgeable. Apparently he has been observing me at the gym and he told her that I will not be losing any more weight due to lifting and that if i Want to lose weight, I need to do a lot more cardio. Is this true?
Also, I have noticed that since starting to lift, I have not lost any weight, actually I've gone up about almost 10lbs!!! HELP!

Calorie deficit makes you lose weight, not cardio.0 -
CC has it. If you are eating at a reasonable deficit (less than 500 under your total needs), you will lose weight, cardio or not. If you eat at maintenance or slightly above, you will put on muscle and some fat (but not a lot). It may be that you don't actually need to see anything different on the scale, and just keep lifting - your body will change shape and make you 'look' like you weigh less than you do. For instance, I weigh @ 175 and am 5'4", but I recently had a trainer at my gym guess that I was @150. Muscles - they take up less room!0

Now, I should add, you can also eat at maintenance, and add 1-2 cardio sessions in (something that you enjoy for a moderate amount of time), and that will create your deficit. I do better this way, but everybody is different.0

Calorie deficit makes you lose weight, not cardio.
Cardio can help create a larger deficit to help lose weight, but losing weight isn't everything.
Strength training helps with body composition. You can weigh more in lbs, but be smaller in inches. Many people like being leaner and stronger over a particular weight. Two women who are the same height and weight can have two very different looks depending on their body fat percentages. With lifting it is important to look at the other things like CC said. Your lifting numbers are great. How are your measurements doing? You can lift and lose body fat with a moderate deficit and little cardio. That will reshape your body, not necessarily change your weight.
And just because a trainer says you won't lose weight without doing more cardio doesn't mean they are the expert on the matter. Many trainers are stuck in a very commercial way of thinking about fitness. The mainstream fitness has pushed eating less and more cardio for weight loss so long that most people think that is the end goal for everyone. A one size fits all fitness model.
I learned that my weight is just a number on the scale, but may or may not be an accurate representation of my level of fitness, body fat percentage, or how I look.
Keep at it and do more cardio if YOU want to, not because you heard that someone said you need to.0 -
and this trainer said this without any knowledge on your caloric intake? that was pretty ignorant. Take pics/measurements every 2 to 4 weeks for accurate tracking. Also, are you eating at a deficit? If so, how accurate is your tracking? Using food scale? Daily? a few times a week? All of these things make a significant difference.0
