How about we do some introductions?
My name is TJ. I'm 22 years old, married and I live in Louisiana. I started my weight loss when I realized one day that I had gained 40 pounds since high school. I now have most of that 40 off, and I'm looking to lose about 20 more.

I am Carol. I am one of the F2FHQ show hosts. I am a wife and mom of three young children. I work in a school district as a coach to teachers. I have battled with my weight all my life, always dieting...always about 10-15 lbs over weight. Once I had my children in my mid 30's the weight just kept creeping up. I found that I was about 30 lbs heavier than I wanted to be and made some major changes in my life. It was really hard, I worked out like crazy and starved myself and got to goal. For a minute. I continued to starve myself and work out harder but the weight was just creeping back up again. I finally started looking at WHAT I was eating. Not just how many calories. That has made a huge difference in how much I can eat. I have kept off 20 of the lbs and struggle with losing about 5 to be happy. I am also desperately trying to find a way of eating that can be an enjoyable lifestyle and keep me from gaining weight. The show and all of the folks here are a HUGE part of what keeps me going. I have not figured it out completely yet, but I am enjoying the ride a lot more than I used to. Thanks for being part of the community!

Hi All! My name is Angela and I live in Tampa, FL. I'm 39 and have been watching my scale go up and down 20 - 30 lbs since I was in my early 20's. I've done paleo for about three years before I became disenchanted with the whole paleo perfectionism and the paleo police. Now I follow a JERF (Just Eat Real Foods) and NSNG (no sugars no grains) way of eating and I leave the whole paleo word out of most conversations. I'm not strict with any of it as I like to socialize and that includes drinking craft beers or other alcohol containing drinks.
I've done about 25 mud/obstacle runs to include a Tough Mudder and have been Crossfitting for 4 years until I tore my ACL this July. I had Allograft (a donor ACL) surgery in September. I started working about again about 4 weeks ago by going to spin class, Orange Theory Fitness, doing Insanity, cardio boxing classes, indoor paddle/surf board group classes and even a couple of yoga classes. That seems like a lot but I actually only workout 3 to 4 times a week. I also bought a Fitbit Force and have been averaging 8,000 steps a day. I love the Fitbit so much!!
I love the podcast and appreciate that you are not experts, but just normal people trying to figure this all out, just like the rest of us. I appreciate all of your efforts.0 -
Angela!! I am in awe of your commitment to your health and your activity level. I know it is just 3 to 4 workouts a week but they are really doozies!
I'm so impressed at how you're back in the workout game after the ACL thing. I feel like SUCH a slug reading this. I will be working out tomorrow for sure. So Thank you for that. And I love your healthy attitude about how you eat. I will be stealing some of your words this holiday season with my family. Paleo gets so many eye rolls and Im not even good enough at it to call them my peeps either! I like the JERF and NSNG.
I appreciate you being part of the group. All of us are going to make an incredible difference for each other in 2014, I just know it!! Thanks for being part of the motivation movement we have going on.
Your story is a great one!! Can I read it on air?
Stay in touch!
Merry Christmas!

Just a quick THANK YOU for being such a constant here all year TJ. You are the bomb!0

Thanks Carol! And hello Angela!0

My name is Jack and I am a 50 year father of 3 (daughters). I live in the Houston, TX area and have been dieting off an on since I graduated college. When I was in school, my activities combined with youth was enough to keep me in "OK" shape, even though my diet was horrible. Since then however, it has been one yo-yo diet after another.her. Primarily following whatever my wife was doing. I found Fat2Fit while listening to other FRN shows and decided to check it out. There were probably about 3 episodes at that time and Carol hadn't even joined the team yet. I appreciated the realness of the show and continued to listen.
In March/April of 2013, at 263lbs and facing my 50th birthday, I decided (once again) to "do something" about my weight. At 6'2", my weight was at an all time high. I started the usual, cut fried food, watched the carbs, drank a ton of water and cut calories. With the somewhat usual success, losing 5-10 pounds over 3 weeks.
About this time, I decided to go to the NRA show in Houston where I met Carol, Zach, and Jake.
I have continued to listen to the podcast and have been as dedicated to improving my health and fitness at any point I can remember. I'm down about 70lbs, excercise daily (Run/Walk) and am signed up to do the Tough Mudder in Nashville. My weight is as low as it has been in over 25 years - lower than my wife has EVER seen me. I feel as good as I have at any point I can remember, although live in constant fear that this is a "fad" and that I will "fall off the wagon".
My stretch goal for 2014 is to lose another 10lbs or so and run a half marathon (maybe..). But really, I would be thrilled if one year from today I was within 5lbs of where I am now.
I am so thankful for F2F as it has served as "virtual accountability partners" on the journey. Thanks Carol!0 -
You said it Jack!! I am also so grateful for this virtual community. Especially as I sit here at Grandma's house the day before Christmas with pants that are just a BIT too snug. I realize that the next few days will be a constant onslaught of yummy treats and meals... and that I will succumb to many of them. And that I will have MUCH work to do when I return from the vacation. BUT I also realize that my virtual accountability partners are here for me when I get serious again. In fact, even now, it helps me not COMPLETELY fall off the deep end. So thank you Jack and thanks to all of you.
Carol
PS: Thank you for being the very first listener to say Hi and tell me in person that we were making a difference. I rode a high for months on that few minutes we spent talking. Very special!!0 -
Of course you can read my post on the podcast. I would love to hear you do so while I'm commuting. Thank you so much!
BTW - I know many of you are getting rid of your scales this year, but I got a Fitbit Aria for Christmas and I'm so excited. I love tracking my weight, measurements, and fat percentage (good and bad) and I've done so for over 10 years. My new scale measures 3 lbs heavier than my previous scale and more than 2% higher on body fat. I'm good with it as I use it as a tracking tool only.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!0 -
I hear ya Angela!! I am regretting not tracking ANYTHING over my vacation. Just got back today and I don't need a scale to tell me I have work to do. But that scale does help me. I have to learn to use it and not be obsessed by it. And not let it RUIN my day if it doesn't read what I want. But I am finding that for me, it is a valuable tool. Thanks and Happy New year!!0

And Angelca, if you have any specific health goal for 2014, write me with it. I am going to use your feedback a little later in January. Tomorrow we record the end of year show and we are reading listener goals so we can all commit together. You have TONS of healthy things you are doing! What is your end goal that you want to get to? Or are you already there and want to maintain? That is a goal in itself!
Thanks!
Carol0 -
According to my doctor and lab results I'm very healthy so my end goal is strictly vanity based. I want to greatly reduce my fat percentage and I hope to comfortably wear a size 6. I'm currently wearing an uncomfortable size 10...meaning I'm squeezing into my size 10 jeans and work pants and should really be wearing size 12. Ha ha! I want to get my muscle definition back and intend on adding 2 to 3 days of lifting weights. I'm also going to clean up my eating as I've let a lot of crappy foods (bread, pasta, too many craft beers) slip back into my everyday eating.0

My name is Jackie, I'm 45 yrs young. I discovered in 2010 that I had type 2 diabetes. After taking insulin and a medley of medicine for diabetes, heartburn, high blood pressure etc for a year I decided that I was to young and needed to do something immediately. I joining Ideal Protein and after 3 weeks I was taken off my insulin, week 5 I didn't remember when I had heartburn last, by week 8 I was off all my meds and the weight started to come down. I didn't lose much on the scale. 35 lbs in total but my waist shrunk. In my favorite jeans, I went from a size 16 pant to a size 4 . I maintained until summer of 2013. I retired from my carrier to join my husband. We are owner operators for a heavy equipment transportation company. So basically I sit all day and eat convenience food or restaurant meals for weeks at a time. When I get home we eat very clean. The only exercise we get is when we unload and reload. This only happens once a week.
We have a Vitamix at home and enjoy veggie smoothies and clean eating. I have a nutri bullet in the truck but I haven't used it yet. We grocery shop often and have a small cooler that I can store premade salads and cut up veggies. Planning and organizing meals and fitting in exercise is what I need to do.
We listen to Fat 2 Fit HQ podcast at night before bed. It has become part of our "on the road" routine. Looking forward to loosing the 10lbs that I've gained and getting rid of the heartburn that started acting up again. I'm going to achieve this by using MFP to diaries my food and exercise.
Looking forward to sharing my journey with you and gaining knowledge and ideas from the group.0 -
Hi, everyone! I just started listening to the podcast on the Firearms Radio Network and I love it! I'm Jennifer.
I'm 35 and work from home as a proofreader. I'm also in school to be a court reporter. I do a lot more sitting than I used to and the pounds have been steadily packing on. I've lost 10 pounds (and kept it off!) over the last six months and I'd like to lose about 15 more. I'm not paleo or anything but I'm just tracking my calories and trying to change my eating habits in general. I'm looking forward to this group!0 -
Welcome Jen and Jackie! I have been away from this discussion board too long! Not sure how I missed the notification. Probably selective attention... I've been pretty horrible with my diet. I'm great, low carb and clean eating, until about 7pm. Then it all flies out the window. Each day I am so tired and hungry that I just give up. It is still pretty decent compared to how I used to eat. It is still low carb and pretty clean, but just TOO MUCH. And exercise is pretty lame lately.
So this week I've done MUCH better. Even just reading your stories gives me more inspiration. We just recorded a show with John Kiefer that will be out on Monday(its on www.fat2fithq.com/youtube if you can't wait till then) So this guy wrote Carb Nite. I love the idea of super low carb all week and then one carb nite. Not a blow out for women, but a starch and a dessert!! I am very hopeful!!
Keep up the great work everyone. Thanks for joining us here. And for listening!!!

Huh, thought I had posted my introduction, but I guess not. LOL
Hi, I'm Stacy. I've been listening to the Fat2Fit HQ since last spring, though I am currently months behind on the episodes and trying frantically to get caught up (Shhhh! Don't tell Carol! ).
I started my weight loss journey in April 2004 at 252 pounds (I'm 5'2" so this put me in the morbidly obese category). I started Weight Watchers on April 14th and it took me almost exactly 6 years to reach my 100 pound weight loss goal. What can I say... I'm a slow learner! Took me another 4 months to get to Lifetime status with WW. I wish I could say that maintenance has been easy, but for me it's as hard, if not harder, than actually losing weight. I have years and years of experience losing weight, but none in maintaining weight.
I've spent the last 4 years learning was does and does not work for me. And I'm still learning. Which is why I love the Fat2Fit podcasts and community, because everyone on there is learning, trying new things, and figuring out what works for them.
I still attend Weight Watchers meetings every week for the accountability (I weigh in every week, regardless of how I did that week) and the awesome group support. I no longer count Points with WW, but found that counting calories works better for me. Gives me a more accurate look at what I'm eating. I also have several groups on MFP and the FitBit site that use for motivation and inspiration, not too mention ideas and support. I may not post a whole lot, but I do read and lurk quite a bit.
Feel free to friend me. You can never have to many like-minded friends! :flowerforyou:0 -
I will have to go back through and read all the post but thought I would jump in for now. My name is Howie I am a computer programmer in Ohio. I love fishing, camping, hunting, shooting, cooking and gardening. I have been happily married to Kimberley (GWAndroid on here) for 22 years. We both use fitness pal regularly to track our food. I have recently lost 77 lbs and she has lost 31. Total I have lost 161 and would like to lose another 84+. I have been tracking my food for the past 24 years on and off. I am striving to get to a point of just always tracking so I don't have these setbacks. You can look at my blog if you would like more info on what I do. www.thehman.com. I look forward to getting to know you all. The only time I ever made my goal weight was back in 05 and I did it by using a site called 3fatchicks.com. Community and accountability is an important part of this journey.0

I feel like I'm socializing with celebrities right now! Of course I also squeal like a little girl every time Carol reads some of my feedback on air!
I'm also Angela - I'm 31, married this past summer and living in Northern Ontario, Canada (as I write this it's snowing... March 27th and still snowing...). I have struggled with my weight since about 14. At the age of 16 I went to Spain for 3 months and gained 30 lbs in that time (around 210lbs). For the rest of high school I gained/lost the same 10-15 lbs depending on sports. In university I lost 10 lbs by exercising 3-4 times per week. Since graduating in 2006 I lost 20 lbs when I first starting working, but then regained it struggling with depression. I then started working out again and lost about 10lbs. Then 4 years ago I got down to 162 - my lowest weight since age 13. Not going to lie - it was mostly not eating due to stress, but I did manage to keep it off for 1 year. Then it started creeping back up... 5 lbs... 10 lbs... and now I'm back to 195, gaining 10 lbs since our August wedding.
So January I recommitted and have been working out 3-4 times per week regularly with my gum buddy. My husband has joined the gym as of this week and will add that extra motivation. He has also put on about 25-30 lbs since we've been together and just signed up for MFP this week (without even knowing this was the site I was using - just cause! LOL)
So I hope this is another positive step forward! I was SO EXCITED to see Carol's post about the forums - I had missed them when I searched in December when I first joined - so YAY!
Been listening to the podcast since it's inception and enjoy every week! Even when I fall off my own bandwagon I keep listening!0 -
Hi Angela - I've heard Carol mention you several times on the podcast! Welcome to the community! :flowerforyou:0
