Has anyone run one of these? What's the recovery like? A few friends are doing one this summer and they asked me to join their team. Problem is the race they're doing is 8-9 days before the triathlon I was already planning on doing. Seems like probably a bad idea, though truthfully, the mileage I might do wouldn't be all that much more than I would be running the week prior (a bit more, and definitely more hilly, and 3 runs 3-8 miles each within 2 days but....)

I think for reaching my tri PR this might be a bad idea? But for doing something fun and awesome maybe it's worth it?

This is a question you really need to answer for yourself: which is more important to you, the fun of running a relay race or the pride in achieving a new PR?

I PRed in a half marathon one week after running the Blue Ridge Relay, so it can definitely be done. Depends on your mileage base and how hard you run in the relay. Sounds like you are only doing 3 legs, which really isn't bad at all. I've done the 'ultra' version as well (ran 7 legs and 35 miles) and that definitely takes a lot more out of you!

thanks! I'm really leaning towards the relay since it does sound fun (and who knows when I can do this again). And good to hear at least one person out there has PRd a week later.

What was recovery like? I've never run that frequently in such a short time period (have done nearly the distance, but all at once).

Yes, relays can be very fun! Last year's BRR was probably the most fun I've had in a race, ever. I'll post a link to my recap below.

Personally I found the recovery between each leg to be quite adequate. You get 8+ hours, so it's really not too bad -- almost like just going for another run the next day. Make sure you wear compression socks and give your self at least a little time to do a cool-down run after each leg; you'll be fine.
