MFP friends: I conducted a little experiment this year. Having lost 50 lbs and kept it off for over a year, but unable to lose that last pesky 20, I stopped logging and weighing from Thanksgiving to New Year's. On New Year's Day, I got on the scale and was up 10 lbs.! Horrors! So I went back to my routine, and happily, the weight is coming off at the rate of about 2 lbs. a day. Obviously that's water and whatnot, but I'm happy to report that a little break from the plan doesn't have to be the end of the world. Just thought you might like to know. Cheers!

Ha! You are probably more sensible than me. I have lost almost 50 pounds since early 2012 and am within 10 pounds of goal weight. I've been hovering here for almost all of 2013, with that pesky 10 pounds clinging tenaciously to my middle. I decided to continue to track through the holidays and watch myself fairly closely, but not to stress too much about it. I did, however, continue to weigh myself 3-4 times a week, just to keep myself honest, as I am pretty expert at rationalizing with myself why this slice of cake or that piece of pie won't matter to my waistline. By early January, I gained 6 pounds back. Ugh! Today I am back at my pre-holiday weight, finally. So yes, ONE little break from the plan is decidedly not the end of the world. But for me, too many breaks from the plan easily add up to extra weight -- and fairly quickly, too.

Gosh, this is sounding familiar. I worked hard in the first three months of last year and lost close to 20 pounds. Then I got tired of logging everything, thought I would see how I would do on my own. Not so good, I've managed to gain nearly all of it back. I did have a few minor injuries that slowed me down, but they were excuses more than justifiable reasons to not keep exercising. I'm really trying to do it again, but perhaps slower scale so I can keep it up longer - like forever!
