New mom feeling down

Hi everyone, this is my first time using myfitnesspal and I love it so far. I am a new mom. My daughter is only 7 weeks old and I am feeling down about the excess baby weight. Prepregnancy I weighed about 135, I gained 45 pounds during my pregnancy and I was still doing simple workouts at home throughout. After the first two weeks I had already lost 20lbs but now I'm stuck. I really want to shed the extra 25lbs but I feel like I'm in a rut. I was released for physical activity and work at 4 weeks and have been working out since. The thing is I only work out from home and I feel like it's hard for me to find a good work out routine and stick to it. I have been counting calories and watching what I eat. I have cut out sodas completely. I have only been drinking water for the most part. I still don't feel like I'm getting anywhere though. Any other new moms out there trying to lose their pregnancy weight and any advice to keep me going. Thanks!

You're a new mum and there's so much to be enjoying about that right now. You're also only 7 weeks in, so you've still got to come to terms with the fact your body has now changed and will never be as it was. Are you breastfeeding your daughter? Are you accounting for the extra calories you need for that? Strangely enough if you're not eating enough you won't necessarily lose weight. Also at 7 weeks your body is still healing and coursing with hormones. It will be a while until your skin and joints tighten back up. Some mums find it harder to lose while feeding, however it may just be a matter of finding the right amount of calories and exercise for you. Don't be disheartened. It's definitely possible.
  • I haven't breastfed since after the first week, She wasn't staying latch and was not getting enough so I had to switch, I know it's still early to see a big difference. I just feel like 25lbs is alot to lose. I've always been an active person but have never needed to lose weight. Honestly I'm not as concerned with the number as I am feeling good about my body again. I feel like I would be more productive if I could go to the gym. I feel like doing it at home isn't helping me much.

Did you not seek help with the breastfeeding? It can take a few weeks to learn for you both. Even if you don't go back to it, it takes 6 to 12 weeks for your body to readjust and the hormones to stop circulationg. And 25lbs isn't a lot. Just 6 months worth at a pound a week. As for coming to terms with your new body do have any friends that are also new mums? Is there a post partum support group you could join? Here in the UK there's a different pre-school type group every day of the week for mums of babies and toddlers and a SureStart Centre (which supports new families). Perhaps you need to get out there and find other new mums. Is there a waterbabies group at the local swimming pool? Or a local playground/park? You're certainly not the only one who feels this way. Becoming a mother changes everything, everything you do, everything you think about and everything that's important. Find a way to talk to other new mums either in person or online. I'm sure you're all going through the same thing.

www.fitnessblender.com has great workouts you can do from home. there is yoga, pilates, low impact cardio, mommy & baby workouts. there are workouts anywhere from 10mins to over an hour. check it out. Also, I didn't lose the baby weight til my kiddo was 2! so don't be so hard on yourself. It took 9 months to gain that weight, it will take at least 9 months to lose.
