Gym buddy/workout partner

How would you look into finding a gym/workout partner?

I am usually at the gym 4 or 5 times a week, I spend one visit with a PT, then the rest of the week I workout alone. Thats not bad on cardio days, but on lifting days I know I darent push as hard as I would like as I dont have someone spotting my bench press, or being there to help with the squat if it were to go wrong :( .

I have asked my trainer if he knows of anyone, but so far nothing. What else would you suggest?

Since I started lifting I've taken off my headphones and started chatting to people in between sets. I've gotten to know a couple of people and there's always someone who is happy to help with the spotting the bench press. I'd say don't be shy and just ask someone if they'd mind when you need some help. You might end up with more than one gym buddy.

I am actually really bad as this earphone thing is a constant addiction - I wear it everytime i step out of my room and to the gym (i like to listen to the music more than commercials being spewed out in the gym).

    So anti-social lol!

I have my headphones on most of the time at the gym, but I find that I tend to want to leave them off when I am in the weight area. Some days theres only the "big beefy" men in there, they seem so focused on their bicep curls, or other moves with the dumbells, I hate to interrupt.

And the gym users that use the bench or squat rack are often working in groups, and wander off when they are done...

I guess I am just going to have to pull on my big-girl pants and ask for help on an as/when basis... I just liked the idea of a work out buddy more than an occasional spotter.
