Lung Problems

My sinus infections turned into upper respiratory infections a few years ago, and now those have turned straight into pneumonia the last couple of times. Two years ago I had a pseudomonous infection that required hospitalization for a week and 28 outpatient infusions over a 14-day period (one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.). I had pneumonia twice last fall, both instances lasted several weeks. They hit fast and without much warning, today I have an infection and neither my family Dr. or lung specialist was working.

I was told pneumonia was a possibility after having the surgery but of course didn't even think I would get it yet again. Has anyone else had pneumonia post-op.

My hesitation on going to Urgent Care is that I know the drugs that work and they are probably not going to take my word for it. If they just prescribe Keflex, Amoxicillin, Z-Pak (even a double pak) etc I know they won't work on me and I will just frustrate me and be a waste if energy, time and money. I also don't like using the Emergency Room as a substitute for a Dr. appointment. I'm in a quandary.

The two instances I had it last fall did not require hospitalization as I was able to see a Dr. that day and get a shot of a heavy-duty antibiotics and steroids, prescriptions for each and RX cough medicine. My surgeon warned me against steroids, so now I'll have to see if there is anything that can be substituted for it, as it's the main shot that gives me some relief the fastest.

Call your primary DR. You will get his/ her answering service and let them know why you called instead of going into urgent care. They will advise you and maybe call in a rx for you. It's worth a try. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.
