Depends on how long the class is and if they are using actual spin bikes w/ real saddles. As for the cleats, hell to the yes.........

You can. I don't. I actually would like to bring cleats but I use Time cleats and those pedals are SPD. I see people wearing a full on bike outfit

Yep. Though you may still be the only one. As a guy, I wear regular shorts over them, because around here, no one wants to see that ****.

I always did...and will again. I saw a guy go into to class in full kit the other day.

    I always wear cleats.

I wear padded shorts if it's been a while and my butt is likely to hurt. And then, it's capris or other shorts over them.

I saw a guy in a full kit lifting in the weight room the other day. I guess he just came from spin class but it was matching and logo-ed which I don't know, is kind of weird.

Was he older and in awesome shape?

No. He was young and skinny.

I don't wear a full kit EVER. I like my riding apparel to be a little baggier. But I do wear MTB shorts with a padded inner liner. I also would wear cleats but only because I had a pair of spd clips.

I also agree spinning SUCKS and can't wait for spring.

Yes, I always wear my shoes! Trying to ride without being clipped in is awful..... Shorts. I personally do not wear them especially since our spin class takes you in and out of the saddle so much... I would say wear the shorts if they make you more comfortable (maybe wear baggier shorts over the top of them)... hahahaha.... I have heard about people wearing a helmet in spin class but never actually seen anybody. That would be too funny!

Yes. Always. Can't get enough on the pull up action going with the toe-baskets and all around more comfortable with cleats. And diaper shorts. Lots of people do at your/our gym so you won't be out of place at all.

I always wear SPD shoes. I have PTSD-like flashbacks whenever I strap into those damn death cages, so not going there...

Since my spin class is only 45 mins, I can't justify sweating up a pair of good bike shorts. That and the spin bike saddle is rather huge and squishy (compared to what I'm used to) so I forgo the extra shorts padding.

It's possible he rode his bike to the gym. Not unheard of. Some triathletes ride to the gym for brick workout (pool, treadmill, etc.). If that's not the case, then full kit dude may have not wanted to sweat up a 2nd outfit after spin. Seems practical, albeit odd.

I don't do classes but do use Spinning bikes in the gym for indoor training - and yes I wear cycle shorts and cleats.

Cleated shoes to help keep my dodgy knees in line, stability and allow more hamstring work (pulling up).
Shorts for comfort. If I'm also doing a general gym workout then I'll wear baggy shorts over as it's not exactly a great look. :frown:

You will be able to spot the cyclists in a Spinning class as they know how to set their bikes up properly.

I absolutely, positively agree. I keep saying saying to the kids how, "I can't wait to go outside to play."

Another to say yes and yes-

-I actually have a pair of liner shorts that I bought just for spin, and always wear gym shorts over them. All my road kit is bib, and that seems over the top for the gym.

-I switched to Speedplay pedals last year, so now my SPD shoes are dedicated spin shoes. They're kind of near the end of their life, but 45 mins at a pop is fine.

Seeing people in bike shorts in spin class doesn't phase me, but people wearing jerseys always makes me wince.

    Yes and Yes..

The seats aren't as comfy as mine.. so yes but with baggies over the top..

Gym shoes flex and I find I get sore feet, so I wear a pair of SPD mountain bike shoes for spin as the firm soles gives my feet more support and less owies :)

Just cleats when I did spin. The bikes there had lame cushy seats.

I was once heading out for a ride and I punctured! I didn't have any repair stuff with me but I was near my gym so I thought "sod it, I know I'm in all my gear but I'll just go for a spin instead"!

I did feel a little out of place but luckily it was only a small gym so not too many other people in there, and I got a good workout in!
