I've been a T1 for 12 years; after 3 kids I now have about 65 pounds to lose. We all talk about the challenges of losing weight with diabetes; but I am hoping to get advice from those of you who have been successful in your weight loss journey. What works for you? What motivates you? What keeps you on track everyday?
I'd love to have other t1 friends in this weight loss journey I'm attempting, so please feel free to add me.

Type 1 for 14 years, pumping for 9 years, CGM for 1 week.
I set aside 100-200 calories a day to correct lows - you can vary this depending on what you use for correcting (I use juice). I still struggle with lows now and again, but they are much less frequent. Losing weight with diabetes doesn't have to be daunting - I myself have lost 30 lbs since I started getting the hang of not over-correcting my lows and trying to prevent them. I am on a pump, so I use a temp basal for exercise. I have cut my insulin needs by more than half since starting. If you are not on a pump, you may try scheduling exercise with a meal or a snack to prevent the lows. For instance, if you find you go low during exercise, try to have your meal or snack before starting and cut back your insulin requirements. If you find lows occur after exercise, try to schedule a meal or snack after your exercise.
There should be no reason cutting calories does not help with weight loss with diabetes, unless you also have other health issues that may be preventing the loss. If you are finding cutting calories is not working, ask your doc for a thyroid test.
I try to log BGs, carbs, insulin and exercise daily, but it usually doesn't happen that way. Try to set aside a day a week to evaluate how your week went. You should be able to pick up a trend to help with control, which will definitely help decrease the lows.
