Breast feeding calories

I just started tracking my food and exercise and I am excited to lose weight and get healthy again. How do you deduct the breast feeding calories?

  • Welcome and good luck! There's a great community here!

You can account for it a few different ways. I add it to diary under foods at breakfast. Just search for breastfeeding when you add to diary. I like the option tha account for protein, fat and carb deductions.

    Enjoy being a healthy mama!!

Ditto PP - You can log it as a negative-calorie "food". There are even different entries for EBF, BFing older baby, etc. Make sure that you are also adding that # to your BMR / TDEE calculations. You may want to lose weight, but baby doesn't need to ;-)

I'm exclusively Pumping and I know exactly how many calories I pump per day so I add it using the one found on the website already, 20 calories/ounce. I've heard that the rule of thumb if you are breastfeeding only is to put in 500 calories for the day. I enter between 900-1000 calories per day for my pumping. Make sure you are eating those calories back and not starving yourself. You don't want to hurt your supply. GL!!

Damn girl, that's quite a supply you've got! Congratulations - it'll make building a freezer stash so much easier!!
