19 days away from my first lifting competition

Hi, i've been quiet lately due to stressful problems at home. but i'm still lifting and bulking! My clean bulk diet turned a little dirty and i stopped taking creatine and really noticed a difference, so i am back on creatine and all pumped up and eating as healthy as i can for now.

I'm so excited about my first power lifting competition! I have the next few weeks of training all scheduled out , by my trainer, what i need to do to prepare. Its such a learning experience and i really enjoy it and i'm looking forward to setting my starting numbers on the platform!

I've bulked up quite a bit in the last few months. Its funny, when i was consciously measuring and watching, i didn't notice anything. but as soon as i got distracted with my life, but stayed on track, i noticed my muscles are huge and strong! I really noticed the strength and stability in my legs in just the last few months. My quads are popping out, and my knees are so solid, they have never felt this strong on my whole life. I dont have any more knee or back pain ever , every joint is surrounded by solid muscle supporting all my joints. Thats one of the best parts about all this.

And another funny thing, i always thought guys turned away from girls with even the slightest bit of muscle and thought they were gross, but that is so not true. Every guy that feels my biceps loves them and gets all crazy turned on . Lol, i know thats funny, but its true! Its kinda flattering.

anyhow, im' excited about this comptetition! Happy bulking and weight lifting everyone!!!!!

    woot woot!!!

    which one is it?

I'm going to my first in June- I had to turn down the Febuary one- oh well.

What are you expecting to pull?

have you practiced the lifts at all? (talking to the girl at my gym the bench was the hardest for them- wrists need to be UBER straight- and the pause at the bottom seems to take forever!!!)

YAY and are you doing a program to peak??

    so excited for you!!!

    Thanks everyone!

JoRocka, to answer your questions, i think this one is called March MAdness, in sacramento. Im also doing on in sac in june and then the womens pro am in november.
i am expecting to squat 185-200 ish, not sure my starting number cause i'm still on massive newbie gains now that my knee has just recently healed and i broke through a mental barrier.
i will deadlift around 250 and i'm hoping to bench 140.

I know those are small numbers for strong girls, but i'm just a beginnger and have a long way to go to catch up to the pros!
and yes i've been practicing the lifts, and training. I train 4 days a week at my local gym and then go to sac 1 day a week and train with a power lifting coach. This month she has us scheduled to find out all our maxes, as well as a trial platform run where she'll shout out commands and stuff to us and make sure we are all ready for what to expect on game day. And then on the day of the meet, we go in as a team with our coach and she'll be there wrapping our knees and wrists. We are allowed knee wraps on the squat, and wrist wraps on the bench. I dont like the wrist wraps, but i'll wear them since thats apparently what power lifters do.

and yogaga if you are at all interested in power lifting you should totally give it a try, its so awesome ! i love lifting heavy, i love everything about it and how it makes my body feel.

sounds like you have a good game plan and a coach which are nice things to have!!

Doesn't matter what you pull ultimately- it's that you do your best- and you have a good time- I was mostly just curious.

I'm going to be nervous- everyone took first in their weight class in February- and one of the other girls is lighter than me and out pulls me- it's shameful. but it is what it is- might as well just go for it and have a good time- the numbers are less important than just having a good time. :)

Can't wait to see how it goes for you!!!

yeah its just getting out of the house and doing something fun, making new friends, and getting up there on stage and doing your best! i don't compare my lifts to anyone else anymore, i only compare them to myself. I'm excited because this first competition will set my starting numbers and give me something to build on for the womens pro am in november. And if i can see increases between now and november, thats a win for me!

5 more days until Power lift meet day! and then omg im cutting the very next day! i feel so bloated and fat and gross. I tried to do a cut back in jan, and instantly lost strength, so i went back to bulking and my #'s went up, and i just wanna keep them up until this competition . And i'm on creatine , so i'm fat and I'm pumped and my pants dont fit , and my shirts are tight around my arms. And this roll on my stomach, make it go away!!!!
i'm excited about the competiotn and cant' wait to see the numbers i can do. My coach has my max attempts to be Bench 145, squat 205, deadlift 270. I've never done those ever, so its gnona be fun to find out how strong i am under pressure and on stage! I'll take pics to share here.

I'm excited for you! Can't wait to hear about it!

I have started browsing the numbers being put up in my local area just to see what I'd be up against… Def considering competing one day… I have a few more bulks to get in before I can hang with the cool girls, but I'm super into this!

    thanks JORocka!!!

and yogaga you should totally do it, the fun part of powerlifting is that its a combination between actual strength and technique, My lifting coach was able to get soooo much more weight out of me just by switching my form and technique. That has been so much fun learning , and its cool to go lift massive amts of weight and have people think you are strong, when really its just a cheap trick learning how to get your whole entire body into the lift instead of just a couple muscles. Its soo much fun, you really should check it out if you are at all interested. And i love all the new friends i've been making.

how do you feel your arch is?

I actually have found it has hinder my lifting- I lift whole body- but my arch is kind of shoddy considering I can put up body weight- I wonder if I got it down right how much more I could push LOL. Me thinks I'm just not used to it- feels like it gets in the way- and then for 3 days my back is effed up LMAO.

And you are spot on- technique is EVERYTHING- you can do a lot better with the right technique.

I'm actually trying to hunt down someone to do consultations and tune ups with- I don't want a full time coach but someone to give me some directions and pointers and to help really clean stuff up.

    Coaching is good. :D

coaching is super important. There are on line coaches that arent' too expensive, but if you can find one in person, thats the way to go. A real good one. I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes one way to the coach i am using. she's 20$ for a couple hours, which i think is cheap for what i'm getting. I live in the woods, so any time we want anything we have to drive into town. Its worth it. I see her once or twice a week and then come back to my home gym and work on it.

What do you mean by arch? The only lift i have an arch is my bench, i arch my back, but its just to get my body angled so that i can push with my legs also, it doesn't hurt or anything. Actually when i go past my limits i'll start to feel it in my back and then i stop , its too much i know i need to work on the other muscles so my back doesn't start kicking in too much. And when i do feel my back start to pinch, i'll try and shift my push into my legs more, or just bail on the lift. I dont like to take chances with my back ever cause yeah it will be a long time healing.

yeah- I'd like to be able to go once a month- or maybe twice if I can swing it- for 20 bucks an hour or two I'd be there 2x a month. There is a place that does evals for 160/180 for 2 hrs and that seems a little steep to me. I'm not unwilling to pay- but that seems high.
And I'm certainly not unwilling to drive- especially for once a month or so.

Yes- bench- arch- that. I just find when I get a good arch I don't feel as efficient and then I have back problems the next day- it doesn't hurt while I'm doing it- but the next 3 days I'm paying. :( Gotta find a happy medium- the more I do it- the better it gets- but the more I do it- the more aggitated my elbow gets and then I can't bench- bad trade off. I've been practicing uber light with only one or two sets for technical work to try to get a better arch to push.

Man lucky you- 20$ I'm totally jealous!!!

160 for 2 hours is way too much. i paid for a few privates with my current coach, it was 75 for 2 hours. I had a private for each lift and then i went into a small group of 2 or 3 people , and thats 20 for the workout.

If the bench arch is hurting you, you might be doing it wrong? ARe you up on your lats , i engage my lats deep and dig them into the bench, my shoulders are pinched together, thats where the power for the lift comes from, your lower back shouldn't be involved at all. My butt barely touches the bench, my entire core solidly engaged all the way through my legs. This power lift position is a hard one to get into , and when i'm benching to build muscle, i am on the bench totally different, i only get up in that arch for the power part. Do you use a weight belt? you can't really see an arch in this picture, but this is as arched as i get, abnd my butt is not resting on the bench, i'm tight all the way through my legs, my butt is touching the bench becuase thats the rules, but its engaged and i'm holding it up . Some people get a way bigger arch, i can't go any more than this or it will hurt my back . A coach might also be able to help you get your arms positioned so it doesnt' hurt your elbows . Squeeze the bar, bend the bar on the way down, spread it on the way up, those kinda tips and makign sure your arms are tucked and spread at the right time.

Well, that was the most fun thing I've ever done in my whole life! I squatted 198, benched 138 and deadlifted 270. Way more than i ever thought i could. My trainer was there the whole time, i was with a team of 5 girls, and we had a blast supporting each other and hanging out all day. Oh and the male lifters... what a giant mess of testosterone! It was awesome to just be in their presence!

I made all my lift attempts except my third bench which was about 145. There was no way , i got it up about 2 inches and said take it.

My next competition is june 1 and after taking off yesterday and today to rest and recover, i'll be hitting the weights hard tomorrow! Now i have a base to try and improve on , and some experience up on the platform. I'm hooked.

    YAY congrats!!!!

Good job on your lifts!!! That's fantastic!!!

On to the next question- where did you get your singlet from- I need to start shopping- mine's the 8th of June I think!

edit- I missed youre reply to my questions

I don't mind paying a little bit- but I mean- I just dropped 100 for about 4 hrs of dance work shops from a teacher from Sweden whose visiting- so to me almost 100 an hr was a little much.

I don't think I'm really wrong- I just feel like I am not really used to it- and I have bigger issues with hips than anything.
I definitely have lats pulled and everything is tight- I push hard enough to get butt cramps LOL- I think the angle is just something I"m not used to and my back isn't what it used to be.
I've been focused on training that for now to get better.

Been talking about a coach- or someone for sports medicine physiotherapy.

I have work to do that's for sure.

Thats guys, it was soooo much fun. i'm so glad i pushed forward through all my barriers and out of my comfort zone and did this. I have to say when i was first getting into it, i cried many times thinking i coudlnt' do it for every reason possible, but i made a committment to myself that i was gnona do it no matter what happened.

jorocka, i got my singlet from Inzer. google them, they have all the power lifting supplies. but i think you can wear just about any singlet.
