Hi all!
I am 13 weeks pregnant with our first baby and so excited! I just got over a TERRIBLE spout of morning sickness where I was on IVs and lost about 15 pounds. I was throwing up every day and could barely get myself up out of bed, let alone do any type of exercise. I am finally pulling out of it, but still under weight. I set my weight goal to gain .5 lb a week - is that still ok with how much I lost? I don't want to gain too much too fast because I don't feel that would be healthy, but maybe I should try to gain a lb a week until I am at my prepregnancy weight? ( I was a healthy weight, by the way)
I also am going to the YMCA today for a tour. I am hoping to start some light swimming and maybe a yoga class. I don't want to shock my body with too much exercise too fast especially when I am still underweight and throwing up a bit here and there. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

You should probably just aim to eat what you can, when you can since you just got over that (glad you're feeling better, BTW). The weight will come back on likely in your second and third trimesters so don't stress too much about it. For the first trimester, maintenance calories is a good goal but now that you're on your way into your second I think most guidelines say maintenance + 250 or so every day. I personally keep mine set to maintenance (I'm 28 weeks now) and eat when I am hungry. Sometimes I go over, sometimes not, but I am still gaining weight. However, I was also overweight when I got pregnant.
Exercise is definitely good for you and baby but you probably shouldn't go in too fast! Do what you want as long as you feel good and if anything feels weird or off, stop :-)0 -
Take it slowly and listen to your body - am in 3rd trimester with my first!
My first trimester was hideous- everything made me sick (I could not open the fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, feed the dog, have a shower or clean my teeth as the smell of everything was making me sick) apart from really vingary carbohydrates and strangely enough jogging (i was a runner anyway and managed to run a half marathon whilst pregnant; but I did not know I was). I swapped from jogging in december to dog walking, swimming, yoga and pilates (DEcember was week 17 for me)
Thinking back I had what I can only describe as an all day hangover from about 9-17 weeks, then I started to feel brilliant and really enjoyed myself. Am not too worried about weight gain as things like the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid etc weighs an amount and your baby needs all of this. I tend to focus on eating the rigth sort of stuff and that my blood pressure etc is healthy (so long as my mid-wife is happy I am)...............hope your sickness goes away soon and you enjoy your pregnancy xx0
