Hi everyone!

I'm unfortunately in a position right now where I can't see a doctor and thus can't get metformin. In this situation, how many carbs a day should I aim for?

    Hi there,

What I have been told by my nutritionist who has PCOS and works with my endo, is that the number of carbs in the day does not matter as much as the number in each meal.

Because the aim is to keep our blood sugar even through out the day, eating 40+ carbs in one sitting (even if it leaves you under your allotment for the day) is still asking for trouble. Instead, we need to keep the blood sugar as even as possible all day long. This means eating a few carbs very often throughout the day.

    This is what I do:

First meal within an hour of waking up (very important)
Every meal should be between 20-30 carbs (all low GI foods)
Every snack should be 10 carbs or less. (all low GI foods)
Eat meals 4-5 hours apart with snacks in between.
Do not eat for at least 4 hours before bedtime.
No Added Sugar/No Wheat Products/No Dairy at all.

This way your blood sugar remains constant all day long, preventing your body from needing to produce extra insulin to transport glucose. It works really well!

    Feel free to friend me!
