Solids?

I was curious when everyone was thinking about starting. I started my son at 4 months hoping it would encourage him to sleep through the night. He was ALWAYS hungry! It didn't help sleep through the night but I am glad I started when I did.
Now my daughter is almost 4 months and has started waking up every 3 hours at night starving! Since 5 weeks she was sleeping 10-12 hours a night so this is not normal. I know the standards are 6 months but anyone starting earlier? I really don't want to start solids yet but I would love to get my sleep back! She went from about 24oz a day to over 30. I produce enough but I am not sure how to get her to eat during the day instead of at night. She is at daycare for about 6 hours a day and eats about 12oz on a good day even though I pump 15. She hates bottles and will eat only if she is starving.
My son loved food and she is so picky! I am not sure what to do

I started at 6 months for all 3 of my kids. And none of them started sleeping better when I did that, lol. Unfortunately, it is really normal for breastfed babies to wake up during the night to eat. Solids probably won't change that. It is possible your daughter is going through the dreaded 4 month sleep regression, or just a major growth spurt. My daughter was a really good sleeper until 4 months old and then started waking more frequently, it really sucked. They are doing soooo much growing and changing at this age that they need the extra nourishment at night. There are a lot of benefits to waiting with solid foods until they turn 6 months old.
I remember how difficult it is when you don't get any sleep and it feels like you're in a fog all the time. You would pretty much do anything for a good night's sleep! Just repeat to yourself... this too shall pass!!0 -
4 months is fine to start, but it's recommended that you start with rice cereal (not in a bottle but very liquidy and spoon-fed). My dad and BIL (my husband's brother) are both pediatricians and, along with our local pediatrician, told us with both kids we could start at 4 months if we wanted to.
My first I started at 4 months on the nose, and he wasn't quite ready. This one I EBF'd, so solids meant having to leave the couch and less convenience. He was ready at 5 months, but I waited until about 5.5 months.
He's 10 months old now, and I miss just being able to nurse him on demand. It was so easy! No prep, no dishes, no bibs or clean-up afterwards. Then again in a few months he should be able to completely feed himself, which means he and I can eat simultaneously

I am not ready for the mess of solids! That's why I really want to wait. I am just exhausted from lack of sleep. My husband works nights so its just me getting up in the middle of the night and some nights I feel like I didn't get any sleep at all. I was spoiled with her the first few months, she slept 10-12 hours starting about 4-5 weeks old. Now she is waking up every 2-3 and seems really hungry.
Like you said, this too shall pass!0
