Thought I would start a new thread on films we have seen that we might think others in the group would like - I suppose like a Geek Squid Book Group, but noticed the forum was quite quiet of late so hopefully get some banter going....

Primer - has: crazy time-travel paradoxes. Lacks: scarves
Equilibrium - has: Christian Bale. Lacks: Christian Slater
Let the right one in - has: tiny vampires. Lacks: sparkles0 -
Recently saw Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead - awesome, in a terrible terrible way...0

I second Rak0ribz recommendation of Let The Right One In. Such a perfect vampire movie.
This recommendation list is a great idea, but I'm going to have to think on it before I come up with my own0 -
I thought I would give something new a try - The Mortal Instruments wasn't that bad, it's very different from the type of film I normally watch but it passed the time while I was making my armour0

La Jetee by Chris Marker 1962. a french avant garde film about time travel and the end of the world and love. (remade by Bruce Willis as a more conventional film) we watched this in several classes in college and ive caught it on tcm once since then. for such a minimalist creation it tells alot.

cronocrimenes (time crimes) a spanish murder mystery with time travel.

^^^ Seconding the recommendation for La Jetee as well! It's awesome!0

Near Dark...old vampire movie with Bill Paxton.....before Chet0

I was really happy with Safety Not Guaranteed recently. It was amusing, and I love Aubrey Plaza.
Poultrygeist seems like something I'm going to need to search out.0 -
Stardust -based on the Neil Gaiman / Charles Vess book -really fun romp of a fantasy story, great actors.
That Thing You Do!- written and directed by Tom Hanks, Awesome original soundtrack, I seriously question why it has not been turned into a broadway show.
Some Kind of Wonderful - the John Hughes 80's Teen movie that barely anyone talks about, but is actually my favorite0 -
Managed to watch all of Oblivion yesterday, I quite liked it for a post apocalyptic head bending film but the story was good and wasn't cluttered up with too many characters.
Very contrasting to this - American Pie the Reunion was actually quite funny, even if it did make me feel a little old! It was produced by Biggs and William-Scott and was a close contender to the laughs of the first two (at least I thought so whilst cleaning all my paintball kit :P)
Next on the list is World War Z though I am unsure what to make of this prior to watching it....0 -

Bunraku, definitly. It has some big names, but as far as I know it never made it to theaters. Good revenge/love story and visually...well...different, haha
13th Warrior is also one that I really enjoy as well. Mideival action adventure and in his prime, Vladimir Kulich would have made the best Thor. Ever. Hemsworth is awesome, but Vladimir Kulich just would have killed it.
Now a couple cult classics for those that for some twisted reason have never seen them. These are absolute musts for all and if that wasn't enough of a reason...then just watch them to get some of the best movie quotes of all time, haha
* Starship Troopers
* The Princess Bride
Finally, in honor of the coming release oo the new Starwars.... Spaceballs. It's just good ol' fashion funny.0 -
I saw 'Vamp U' last night, and it's another of those so bad it's good films
Fifth Element is a favourite, it's just one of those films that you'll see once, and then everytime you catch it on TV, have to watch to the end because 'the next bit's good' 'oh, and the next bit..' and then it's 2am. Also, Alien opera.
Fight Club, because the soundtrack is immense, and the end scene is just spinetinglingly amazing.
I second 'Serenity' because Joss Wheadon, Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau. O.o0 -
If you like RomComs "Only You" is really good 90s era Robert Downey Jr. movie Its funny, cute, witty, great dialog, and You can't beat RDJ on screen.
One of my all time favorites "action" movies is "Big Trouble in Little China". Total cheese fest but so much fun to watch Kirk Russel in all of his 80s glory. "Willow" is a great rainy day movie, fun action adventure with little people. Die Hard, becuase "Yippie Ki Aye_____"0 -
Anyone excited about the new Godzilla movie?0
-
I'm curious about Godzilla movie, i am..
I watched Big Trouble in Little China for Kurt Russel (the hotie when he was young) and stayed because my friend went critical with "such bad acting, wow, misery, special effects, argh, ungh". If that movie won't let you appriciate 80's cinematography I don't know what will
From movie recomendations i'd recoment Now You See Me.
WHY? No idea why i enjoyed that film so muc tbhh. Acting is decent, i got movie crush on Woody Harrelson deepened only with True Detective ..It's nice, watch it0 -
I really liked 'now you see me' too.
And I'm going to see the Godzilla movie on Friday.0 -
