How long until you got your surgery date?

My husband and I were talking the other night about my surgery and all the different things that have been requested. My initial appointment with my surgeon was on March 11th, and my surgery is scheduled for April 29th. I had to have an EGD, psych eval, meet with a nutritionist, and have some labs done. My insurance approved my surgery within a matter of days. How long did it take you to get scheduled for surgery?

My insurance required a 3 month medically supervised diet. My 1st consult was Dec 18, my surgery was March 17

My insurance required that I be in my surgeon's program for six months before even scheduling major tests like EGD, sleep study, etc., so by the time I had my surgery it had been 9 months since I started my surgeon's program. Even though I got impatient, I am glad I had all that time to prepare and change my habits prior to surgery.

I had just about the same experience Tammy. Initial consult, Nut visit, Psych clearance and then I was submitted to insurance and they (BCBS) took about 7 days to approve me and now my surgery is scheduled for 04/23. Have you had your surgery already or are you still pre-op Tammy?

I'm scheduled for the 29th so next Tuesday I'll be going in for surgery. Right now I'm doing the pre-op liquid diet. Not very fun but I know it has to be done! I have BCBS for insurance as well. They are really easy to work with and my surgeon's office had no issues with them.

I also had a six month medically supervised weight loss period. I was not required to lose any weight, but it involved classes, meetings with my NUT, meetings with my surgeon & his team, and the psych eval. The six months was required by both my clinic and insurance.

I initially discussed WLS with my PCP in March 2013, had my first NUT visit at the end of March, had a meeting with my NUT every month, met my surgeon in the middle of September, had the psych eval a week later, once she cleared me they sent my paperwork into insurance was approved after a week or so, and was scheduled for surgery on October 16.
