I love rewards. It doesn't have to be something that costs much, rewards are fun, tangible gifts to myself for goals met. Do you have a rewards system? Maybe you have some ideas for milestone awards we can give ourselves. Let's get some fun ideas flowing!

At my first 20 lbs lost, I'm going to get a manicure. At 50 lbs, I'm going to drop some cash at a real salon and get my hair cut and colored. I never do those things so it's cool reward for me that does not involve a trip to the Chinese food buffet.0

I have plenty of clothes in my closet of all sizes, so my rewards are accessories!!!! I need to make those clothes look good. New scarfs, belts, hats, shoes, purses, and jewelry! Also for every 10lbs I put $50 aside for when I run out of clothes. I only have down to a size 14. Once I reach a size 12 I'll need a new wardrobe. That will be about $750 to spend at Cato's, Muarices, and Vanity!!! :happy:0

I'm saving up for the big reward. When I get under 200, I am spending at least six weeks in Africa. Teaching, traveling, visiting.0

Karen that is amazing.. I would love to travel more than I have. What a great goal!0

Because I lived in southeastern Europe for several years where flights to Africa were cheap, I've been to northern Africa a few times--Egypt and Morocco--and eastern central Africa once--Kenya and Tanzania. I've been asked a few times to teach part of a study abroad program in South Africa and would do that, then visit former students and colleagues in Zimbabwe before spending time on safari. I really want to ride a hot air balloon over the Serengeti!
Before settling in Maine and getting waylaid by Still's disease 10 years ago, I was a bit of a gypsy, traveling and working all over the world. Until three years ago, I still took short trips here and there (boogie boarding in Portugal at my favorite beach in Sagres!!! or trips to the Caribbean with my husband). I've learned to travel light and cheap, sometimes literally singing for my supper.
Right now, my weight stops me from flying or even managing airports or imagining travels. Combined with the joint pain I have from Still's, I am just too limited in mobility. My greatest reward after losing weight will be to reclaim that part of my life! Not to mention going to Thailand to have a body lift/skin removal and have my boobs put back where they belong, LOL!!!!0 -
Oh yes! That is another one. Plastic surgery. I LONG to wear a matching bra and skimpy panties set.. I have never done that in my life and it would be amazing to be able to do that. AND to look better in a swimsuit.
Why Thailand Sue? Is that safe? I have heard Mexico is cheap but there can be complications.0 -
I've been reading a lot about skin removal surgery on the bariatric websites and forums, and thailand gets much higher ratings than mexico. The cost of a body lift is about one third the cost in the U.S. I don't think my insurance will cover any plastic surgery, so I'm planning ahead. You can actually book a "medical vacation" in Thailand... surgery and then six weeks of recovery at a spa/resort on the ocean. And the whole thing is STILL half the cost of the surgery alone in the U.S.
Maybe a bunch of us can go together in a year or two... the MFP morbid obesity group... and get a group rate! hahahahahaaa!0 -
This is something I struggle with. I still see my rewards as a "cheat" meal or some type of food incentive. As a new mom, I tend to buy for my kids over myself often. I am trying to think of something for me. I am not a salon-type rewards person because the maintenance drives me insane lol. I have tried to allow myself kindle-reading time but then again I have 1 year old twins and work full time with opposite schedule of my husband, so who has time for reading?!0

I am in too! What a fantastic idea! We would have a ball. Let's start looking into costs and start looking for a TV reality crew.. anyone got any contacts in this?0

I got a manicure yesterday. My nails are naturally very thin, so she put a gal coat on instead of polish. It was dry in 30 seconds with a ultraviolet light and should last 2 weeks. My nails look fantastic! Even my husband noticed. Lol, he thought I got fake ones - which he doesn't approve of - He knows they damage the actual nail and thinks once you start using them you cant stop or your nails look ****ty. I wanted to get a kit so I can do it at home myself. The starter kit was fifty bucks!! That will be my 50 lbs lost reward!! I cant wait!!!
Blessings

If I get to 60 pounds total loss..I am getting a neck lift...but looks like it will have to be a face lift to ensure the neck lift works. Just don't really want the entire face done, but don't think just a neck lift is very good.0

Sandy...there is just something special about doing your nails. It's such a different feeling to see how pretty your nails are.
I do my own mani and pedi every Sunday and have for several years..the thought of someone else doing it creeps me out for some reason. I have really long fingernails and they're really quite thick and strong so I love doing them in every color imaginable. Ive had to prove they're my own natural nails and not gel several times. People always think they're fake because they're long and well shaped.
My rewards as the weight comes off aside from the main one---breathing better, is going to be clothes and shoes. I have more clothes now than any 5 women could wear but still....I cant wait to get rid of these and have all new ones. I would never wear an outfit twice if I had my way but of course thats not practical. I love the bright colors as much as I do pastels with pink or white being my favorite. Im on a mission to find a pair of banana yellow jeans....fire orange is another color I want.
Cant wait0 -
Hmmm rewards. I haven't really thought about it. I always thought just being at a healthy weight would be the reward that makes it all worth it. But it is nice to do things for yourself, especially when they help you heal.
Some of my first rewards go to helping me stay on track. I don't necessarily have weight targets in mind for these, some are need based and others will happen when I feel ready. The first is to invest in some good walking shoes. It will probably be over $100, but a good pair of walking shoes will help my feet so much. I'll probably be going to the running store in town to do that sometime this week.
The next is to get back on the bike, wich will probably also mean getting it repaired and whatever gear I need. I'm thinking at the end of summer. But that depends a lot on where I am with my weight and comfort level.
Similarly I want to get back in the pool. So when I am ready I will reward myself by purchasing a couple months worth of passes to the community lap pool. This is a big one because I need to be at a point where I am comfortable getting in the water again. I haven't worn a bathing suit in god only knows. I have to be much more happy with my body before I can get back in the pool without something covering me up.
Going to the doctor for a physical and a check up. I can do it now that I have health insurance (of the evils of obamacare... helping me afford insurance). I haven't been in a while and its something I should do, but I want to have made some progress before I go so that when I talk with my doctor I can tell him/her the progress I have made, and to know that any changes I agree to make with him/her are ones I can truly make.
I think after that clothing will be a big thing. When I can ritually go though my mounds of old ill-fitting clothing and clear it all out and buy new cloths that make me happy.
Going on a date. I'll spare you the details of my dating history but lets say I haven't been in the market for quite a while. Now i'm a introvert by nature so I have no clue what this will really mean or look like, but I want to be able to go out and make myself available. I need some loving.... 26 year... I want some loving. Oh to have a sex life... is that too much sharing?0 -

Hi!!!
I was putting $50.00 for every 10lbs lost for new clothes. That went out the window when I went on vacation. I needed the extra $$ for vacation. Even though I am a very large woman, I tend to treat myself well. I already do the mani's and pedi's. Get my hair colored every 8-12 weeks. It's those little things that actually make me feel good about myself. I have a gorgeous gold charm bracelet that my awesome MOM bought me a few years back. I have some awesome charms for it also, I think I might start wearing it as my anchor and adding a new charm for every 15 lbs lost.0 -
Rewards have always been something I have struggled with. Until about 8 years ago, food was always my reward for everything (sadly, even for losing weight). After learning that using food as a reward isn't good, I've never been able to find a suitable reward. I would love to do things like mani/pedis, salon day, massage, jewelry, etc. but money is always an issue when you live paycheck to paycheck. So my rewards need to be something that doesn't require money and I honestly have never been able to figure one out. Any suggestions? I think it would be helpful to my success if I had something to work towards other than just the number on a scale.0

I'm so glad this topic rotated back up. As one of my rewards, I am getting knee high black leather boots. I have never been able to fit into them and have always wanted to....
Rat, I'm with Sandy on the sex/intimacy issues. Don't be afraid of sex at any size. Sex with someone you care about is funny and messy and experimental and Good. I wish someone had explained that to me when I was 26. I also missed a lot of years of love and intimacy because I thought I was too fat for it. Don't wait to put yourself out there. Do some practice dating and remember it's a numbers game. Oh, and Rat, I keep meaning to suggest getting a swim shirt. Everyone wears them now for UV protection and/or warmth. Then you won't feel self conscious about stretch marks.
Rewards that don't cost money? We live on a pretty tight budget, so I am the queen of coupons and bargains. I grab bath & body works moisturizer when it's 75% off or shop clearance and outlet at one stop plus. The Goodwill is great for jewelry treats (or try the goodwill online auctions--just watch out for outrageous shipping charges--Try to bid on stuff you can pick up). Pay yourself 50 cents per pound, and when you have $5 or $10, go to a yard sale or a movie or donate it to a good cause. Have your hubby/boyfriend give you a 30 minute massage for every 30 pounds gone.
Any other ideas?0 -
Those are some wonderful ideas Karen. Thanks0
