Creating a home gym!

So I know what I want in my home gym:
rack, barbell plates, some dumbbells, etc.

I'm moving soon (YAY!) and I'm going to do my best to find a place where I can create my home gym.
I've already informed my mother that if my options are guestroom/office or a home gym, I'm picking the gym and she can keep the bedroom set she was going to give me.

I already have the cardio equipment - second hand treadmill from my great uncle and a second hand recumbent bike.

My question is this:
if my gym ends up being in a spare bedroom or the dining room (dude, I'm 24 and single, don't need a dining room), there will more than likely be carpet there (because rented townhouse/apartment).
Would I need to put mats down under the treadmill & bike?
And where the rack would go?

If so, I wanna get that and install it before I drive to my mother's and trailer this stuff back...

due to it being a rented place I would get some extra padding.

I own my house...but still use padding...under it all.

I bought packages that fit together and can be moved easily.

I would get mats to put under everything, as well. Amazon has some puzzle mats that look like they'd work well.

Bumping this up because I posted an blog about my home gym that I get to make later in the summer (so much squeeeeee)

    Here's the link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/LishieFruit89/view/home-gym-661686

If y'all who have home gyms or are dreaming about them, could comment here or there about what I might be missing, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I was able to score 255# in oly plates for 50cents a lb and 220# in hex dumbbells for 65cents a lb off of Craigslist last night,
So now for the next month, I get to stare longingly at them until I move and make this gym!

I have a home gym but yours sounds awesome! I need to build up my dumbbell collection because I miss doing those for accessory work. Super jealous here, I can't think of anything you're missing.

    Haha thanks!
I might be able to score some 8lb DBs from my mother as well.
I dont really use 40lb dbs yet but it was a whole set he sold me lol. Ill get there

I think the cage is gonna be the hardest thing to get off CL.
Ive found bench stations, squat racks, and some odd individual benches. But no cages yet.

Cages are definitely the tricky part. I don't have room for one, but I still scope CL for them. I think I've found one in my area in the year and a half that I've been looking and maybe 3 in surrounding areas.

Yeah, cages are hard to find. I'm having my husband build me one. Until then, though, I can do SOME barbell work, but so far I'm only comfortable loading it up to do deadlifts. Otherwise I'm like you and staring at my equipment with stars in my eyes.

I've never seen a power cage on CL, but I don't live near any big cities either. I ordered mine off Amazon. i've seen some cool homemade ones on here as well.

    I found one once.
It was a sweet frigging deal.
Cage, oly bar, ezbar, bench, plates trees, mats, like 500# of plates for 550$.

I figure I'll have to buy a cage new and get everything else from CL or Play It Again.

I could probably build a cage myself. I have some skills. But no tools or space to do the work lol
