Induction

Hi sorry if this has been a thread before, wondered if anyone could share their experiences of being induced? My waters broke today but only early signs of labour so have an induction booked for tomorrow AM if I haven't gone into natural labour by then. Thanks

I've been induced and it's not that bad. It kinda sucks being hooked up to stuff and the contractions are closer together than in a natural labor but I did it without an epidural.
I also had my water break with my daughter at 36 weeks 6 days (ZERO signs of labor) and contractions started on their own (without being induced) about 9-10 hours after my water broke. So don't lose hope! Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk!0 -
Thanks for sharing. Yes I've been pottering about my house all day waiting for my partner to get home before I go for a walk outside just in case it starts to progress quickly. I was planning a home birth so I'm hoping I go into natural labour tonight !0

I was induced with my first but it wasn't due to water breaking, so I'm sure it was quite different. I was 11 days overdue with my blood pressure going up. My cervix was at 1cm and my body just wasn't ready (where I'd like to think with your water breaking your body considers it ready!). I had 4 rounds of cytotec over 24 hours. They didn't do anything (some contractions, but I was still 1cm). So they started me on Pitocin. After 5 hours of that my water then broke on it's own, when I was still 1cm. I got a couple shots of IV drugs as the contractions were intense. Got my epidural as soon as I could. Another 12 hours I was dilated to 10. 3.75 hours of pushing and a vacuum and he was here. 50 hours total induction. It sucked, but again, I wasn't ready.
Hope you start contracting on your own! Best of luck!0 -
I was induced with my 2nd for being overdue. I went to hospital the evening of 11 days overdue. They listened to baby for a fair while, then gave me a pessary - a little tablet they stick by your cervix. It contains prostaglandins (or something). I was told my cervix was still totally closed.
I had a few mild contractions in the night, then another pessary the next morning at 6:30am. It didn't take that long to kick in I guess, I was having regular mild contractions by say 9:30ish. I only had to be hooked up to the monitor for half hour to check the heartbeat.
I used my TENS machine. Then I got taken to the delivery room about 2pm maybe. I was checked and was 8/9cm. I had some gas and air then. A doctor came to break my waters, but then the emergency buzzer sounded as a woman was in distress, so we got left. Then my waters broke on their own, hubby called the midwife back, my daughter came out in 5 mins. They checked her, then checked me and the placenta came out in 3 mins. I didn't need stitches. My daughter was handed back to me, I fed her, we were left alone again!
According to my notes my labour was 4 hours 21 mins in total.
We were home 5 hours later eating take-away curry!0 -
I was induced for 'failure to progress' on my own.
I had already been in labor for two days before going on pitosin and, my experience personally - it sucked!!!
The contractions on pitosin hurt way more. I had been in labor for two days and never felt a single sensation I would describe as real pain - until the pitosin started.
Update? How are you doing?0 -
I was induced with first... He was 5 days over due I had the option to wait longer but choose not too. It was ok I guess ( giving birth isn't fun lol) I went in at 7am I was already 3 cm dilated hooked my up to that drugs ( sorry it starts with p I think) they tried to break my waters I think after 10am some how they were alreadyd broken ...?? Not sure how, contractions started gettn stronger by 1pm had gas wasn't doing **** I felt so spacey not myself ( wasn't allowed to walk around I was stuck in bed got epi at about 1pmish was comfy as just a tonne of pressure , started pushing around 330pm,he was out about 415pm the same day. So it took around 9 hrs from start of induction till the end result my Hudson lol. I'm hoping to go on my own this time overall experience I was ok still wouldn't wanted to experience labor without the medication to make me have my baby.
Goodluck how's it all going??0
