That is a great question, Maayan. The disciples asked Jesus the same thing. That's when he taught them the Lord's Prayer.
Matthew 6:9-13 KJV
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Simply put: Prayer is a conversation with God.


In studying this prayer, we've observed that the order follows the acronym A.C.T.S.
A - Adoration (Acknowledge who God is and praise Him.)
C - Confession (Confess our sins. Let us get rid of anything that prevents us from being open to God. Let us remove the barriers we construct that keep us from seeing God clearly and hearing him)
T - Thanksgiving (Saying thank you to God for what God has done already and will be doing)
S - Supplication (Asking for the things we need and want,)

The following prayer can be adjusted to your needs:

Almighty God, who created the universe, and still is interested in me, I ask your forgiveness for sins that I have committed knowingly and unwittingly. Thank you for your mercy in that you loved me enough to send Jesus to save me from my sins. Please help me today [fill in the blanks with your personal requests/issues]
1. e.g. my study of your word that I might understand
2.e.g. my relationship with my family/friend/neighbor/colleague that it may honor you
3. e.g. the work that I do today may honor you
4. e.g. the decision I must make about ______________
5. e.g. the actions I must make re: _________________
6. e.g. with the overwhelming feelings I am having. Please clear my head that I might know what you think is best for me.
7. e.g. with my faith in you, just as the man who said, "Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief."
8. e.g. trust you are the light on my path, showing me each step at a time I must take (promised in Psalm 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.)
9. e.g pray as you want me to. Please let the Holy Spirit speak prayers on my behalf as it says in Romans 8 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

We ask all these things, in Jesus name. Amen.
