I was diagnosed w/ PCOS in 2004 and had a 7lb cyst and left fallopian tube removed at the same time (I weighed 140lbs). Since then, I somehow got pregnant in 2010 (pre-pregnancy weight 225) and now have a very healthy 3yr old little boy (current weight 275 after losing 10lbs in 2 wks). I've been on Metformin for the last yr and I know a lot of women say they lose weight on it in addition to having some of the PCOS effects changed. Well, not me. I have my period consistently every 24-28 days, I just don't ovulate.
I know this is a bit rambly, but my question is: How many women have seen weight loss w/ the Metformin? How long-ish did it take? And did anyone successfully conceive after a substantial loss? Thanks for any help, words of encouragement, or just good vibes.

I have PCOS diagnosed in 1999. I have been on Metformin 1000 x 2 day for 15 years now....it has not helped with weightloss.
I have become diabetic despite warding off prediabetes all those years. I am 46 and weigh 295. MFP really works when I
stay with it.0 -
Did your doctor check your fasting insulin level (not glucose, insulin)? If not, then have it tested. There's no way to know if you're responding to the Metformin without knowing your insulin levels, because that's what Metformin does -- increases the liver's sensitivity to insulin, which lowers blood insulin levels.
Weight loss is a side effect of Metformin if the reason you couldn't lose weight was too much insulin. If your body could lose weight with the higher level of insulin, then lowering it isn't going to have much of an effect on your weight.
If for whatever reason, your doctor won't test your fasting insulin, then get a new doctor. You wouldn't trust a blind pilot to fly a plane, would you? Prescribing Metformin without knowing insulin levels is exactly that -- flying blind.0
