there's a new "Toy" on the Strava Labs page... http://labs.strava.com/

Have a look at the Activity Playback box... it's really rather clever. See who else on Strava was out riding while you were - Playback the ride and see where you and others were - put a Strava Name to the people who you passed, who passed you, or who did a "flypast" heading in the opposite direction.

Here's a link to one ride from Yesterday - where it turns out I did a fly-by on Carl (katozdad) from this very forum.

or better still, from his perspective (as his was the longer ride, you see I'm back "in the clubhouse" before he's even half way home...

and just for a giggle, here's one from a few of the Pro's out for a Sunday Spin...

Wow, how funny! Now you've seen that you passed him and where - can you recall actually passing him ?

Well, given that we've been doing loops that cross over like this quite regularly, it was something that was kind of inevitable at some point - I must admit however, that while I can remember nodding to quite a few people (there were LOTS of riders out considering it was a weekday) I can't honestly say I remember passing someone at that point. Though in all fairness, by that point in the ride, my "saddle sore" was taking more of my attention than it really should have been, and I was more concerned at the prospect of riding the last 20km mainly standing on the pedals

Might be a Javascript problem... looks like it's all driven by .js widgets.

Is this part of the Paid App feature? I'm on the Freebie side of Strava.

(not to hijack your thread, but of those who Pay for the App, do you find it runs/works more reliable for you? I only ask because it can take 5-8 times for it to finally "run" for me when starting it up)

It's on a Browser not the Apps.

I've checked the links on a PC in IE, Chrome, Chromium and Firefox and it works fine. It's also (sort of) working on the iPad in Safari and under Chrome.

and as to the App... frankly I don't care - I use a proper GPS (can't say which one, as Cloggsy starts gibbering...)

I can't see it either and as you mentioned Java, I know its my Java then - silly gov is 5 years behind on 'approved' programs. And I don't know if I want to buy a Garmin or a Polar. I do so many other things besides ride a bike I'm leaning towards a Polar but then I wish I had a Garmin too.

As to the Freebie Strava - try starting it and then switching to airplane mode. I don't want my phone ringing while I ride so I don't care if no one can call me. You also might want to do some upgrades for the app. It worked like that for me too last year but is working better this year and I've accepted all the upgrades they've pushed through.

is there actually a pay for App ? I know there's a premium subscription for the web access version which gives all sorts of analysis goodies that the skinflint version doesn't get, but I wasn't aware of an actual paid-for app. as well...

(I've got v4.0.2 on the Android phone which I think is the current one, and I've also got one on the iPad, but the batterys flat on that so I can't check which version i'm running there.)

Very cool feature, thanks. Here's my ride from last Sunday -- tons of people out on the Dallas trail system:

Also -- Strava Labs' Global Heatmap is absolutely stunning... I've spent well over an hour now, roaming the globe:

I shut off the Wi-Fi while cycling to save battery life. Just actually starting Strava or getting it to hold onto the Sync is always the issue for me. I've even reinstalled Strava to see if that would fix the issue. I think its Strava app itself. As for other, yea I wear a Garmin so do have a backup there, thank goodness.

Did try this feature and it only works on Apple products, bummer for me. (I have an Android) Tho not ready to purchase a pricey iPhone, I would really rather have it for RoadID's 5-min emergency notification they have
