Hi ladies!! I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 17, but no one explained me the impact it will have over my health. My doctor & my gynaecologist just said: "lose weight". I tried, but it was tough and I gave up cause I never knew why I have to lose weight. Long story short, I get my periods 1 to 3 times a year only. I desperately want to get pregnant therefore I have been doing research about PCOS. I really need your help ladies for tips & motivation. I do want to lose weight, but my biggest goal is to get pregnant. Pls help

    Hi Sunaina,

I was diagnosed with PCOS over 2 years ago even though I've had it since puberty. I'm married since then. Like you, I too had not idea how it would impact weight, fertility and quality of life.

2 days back my scan showed grossly thickened endometrium and my Thyroid levels were high. Which means I have endometriosis as well. So getting fit, eating right and loosing those pounds is the only way for me to break the viscious cycle.

For me the biggest challenge is weight loss and eating right.

Please don't be scared by those websites that quote horrid statistics on pregnancy and PCOS. They have depressed me and broken my spirit. The one thing we both can remember is not to put too much pressure getting pregnant and get our body /hormones right to ensure successful pregnancy.

Big hug and wishes and thumbs up! You've already lost some pounds unlike me... Keep going!

Hi I have no idea when my Pco started I was diagnosed after my kids. It took me a year to get pregnant my periods but i did it without fertility then I got pregnant again I tried about 6 months after my daughter was born and they are exactly 2 years apart to the day. My periods are finally regular and became that way after i started doing High Intensity Interval Training and lost weight. My hardest part for keeping the weight off is my late night eating too. I am not necessarily Hungry just wanting to eat :( so annoying I think that is great to try to 30 mins / 5 X week and water definitely helps

    Hi Ladies,

I thought I replied to this... guess there were system issues. My goal is 30 mins a day * 5 days a week atleast.

Let's see how this works out. My say starts at 4:30 am as I have to dash out to work at 5:30, my husband leaves at 6:30. I'm back home by 6 pm... with cooking and cleaning and what not our bed time gets pushed to 11 pm, it is a challenge to find enough time.

Time Management is our greatest challenge! Planning meals ahead of time, making meal preparations ahead of time etc are ways by which we are trying to free up time to get our butts moving!

If getting you exercise in is hard try to do it in 10min intervals through out the day just do little things like parking at the far end of the parking lot, taking the satires at work (my mom goes up and down them with a group of coworkers at lunch time) or have your grocery list ready and see how fast you can gather everything up ( my husband is so much better at that one than I am it's not even funny) also remember that vigorously cleaning is as much a workout as going out for a walk. It doesn't have to be this thing you go way out of your way to do. It's supposed be "fun" just figure out what works for you. Crank up the tunes and dance, you just need your heart rate elevated. If your want the muscle tone in your arms go mix cookies by hand (and give them to a friend :p )

Are you currently working with a dr? Are you on any medication? I know most of the people with insulin resistance are on metaformin, but not everyone with PCOS has that symptom. Generally the stuff I've gathered from my reading is it is manageable so long as you are actively managing it. For most I've gathered is basically a low carb/complex cab/ high protein diet with less processed foods. If you are serious about getting pregnant though you should talk to a specialist to see if you need meds to help. For my dr that was one of the factors that led me to start metaformin over some of the other options.

Keep your chin up. There is hope. My mother and my aunt both had PCOS as well as some other stuff and were still able to pop out 3 children each while still overweight.

While the weight loss will certainly help matters, PCOS can cause infertility even if you are at a normal weight (I was at 145lbs pre-pregnancy). Talk to your ob/gyn about clomid if you want to get pregnant (this will force your body to ovulate). Additionally, you may want to ask about metformin. While metformin is primarily for diabetics, the hormonal imbalances of PCOS make many women insulin resistant and metformin helps rebalance your hormones. It is often combined with clomid in PCOS fertility treatments. As a bonus, the metformin assists many women in better weight management. Also, if you intend to breastfeed, please discuss your PCOS with your ob/gyn and or endocrinologist. My PCOS also resulted in low glandular tissue and I have low milk supply. There are therapies that can be done during pregnancy (use of metformin and progesterone) that can only be done during the different body conditions of pregnancy which lead to increased milk supply. I only found this out once I was in the midst of my low supply and will be undergoing those treatments during my next pregnancy. Good luck with your weight loss and pregnancy.

These are excellent tips! We have to skip gym today for other appointments and I don't see why we cant take the stairs or park far away and walk :)

    Thank you madambutterfly91:flowerforyou:
