Gym doesn't allow chalk

I know that Mehdi really discourages the use of gloves, but the gym I was thinking of using doesn't allow the use of chalk at all. How many of you use gloves for lifting. Does it affect your ability to grip the bar adequately?

You can increase your grip strength through farmers walks and there are spring grip strengtheners at sporting good stores.0

I wear gloves and they don't really cause me any problems, but I have long fingers, so I think that helps. I made sure I bought ones that fit fairly tight, but they still bunch up under the bar sometimes. Have you looked into liquid chalk? I keep meaning to get some, but I haven't yet.
Like Lishie said, you can do farmers walks to help, if it's a grip strength issue. I also like to do rack pulls, using heavier weights than I would for my DL.0 -
Liquid grip is pretty good and not that expensive. I tried using gloves but I get so sweaty it makes the skin all sensitive and I get worse blisters than I do without. (not to mention not a frackin glove in the world will fit my hands right haha)
Grip strength does help to an extent, but using something that keeps your hands dry sometimes is a necessity.0 -

Last summer I had to use gloves because my gym was so hot ad my hands got sweaty.
Finding gloves that fit suuuuucked.
The pair I had I found while hunting for boxing gloves.
Mine came from Walmart, tue golds gym ones. Because even the small ones that they had at sporting good stores were too big0 -
I physically can't grip any tighter, because I have arthritis in one hand. I bought a pair of gloves and they've helped immensely. I guess I have big hands though -- I think these are Men's S and they fit okay. :laugh:0

I don't want to use gloves and my gym doesn't allow chalk. So I just go without. I tell myself if I want to pull more weight, I'd have to improve my grip. I found that doing hanging leg raises have helped with my grip. It's a win-win, I do a core exercise, which I hate, and it improves my grip.0

I use liquid grip. No mess and doesn't get on things when it rubs off. Washes right off with soap and water afterwards.0

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Glad I kept searching through threads and found this one. I have been at this for about 5 weeks and my grip is suffering due to pain from the calluses that have formed. I looked at the Mark Rippletoe video about "proper bar grip" but I cant seem to make this work.
I guess I am off to find gloves and/or liquid chalk and see if that helps. :-)0 -
No chalk at our gym either. Try straps- I have arthritis so no ancillary exercise will help that. The straps significantly improved my dead lifts. (There is a bit of a learning and a break in curve, but lots of YouTube vids to show you how to put them on properly.)0

I use liquid grip. Works well and not messy at all.0

I use liquid grip and it works well. Got a bottle from Amazon. Another alternative Mehdi mentions is an eco ball. I guess chalk substance comes out of it without the mess. Reviews said it's hard to get enough out, though so I didn't buy it.0
