Monday, Easter Week Six, the lessons reinforced how God will provide and take care of believers. In the Old Testament lesson in Genesis, the promise to Noah and all living creatures was that there would never be a flood of that magnitude again—at least one that would destroy all living things on the earth. The sign of the rainbow would be a reminder.
The New Testament lesson in Acts continued Paul’s transit to Rome as a prisoner. We had seen how the ship had been hit with a terrible storm and Paul told the captain that they didn’t need the life boats, but should stay with the ship and no one would die.
The storm increased and they floundered until they saw a bit of land. They cut the anchors and headed toward shore of the unnamed island, but their ship ran aground and the power of the waves broke the aft portion of the ship apart. The captain didn’t want to have ‘escaped prisoners’ on his record, so he chose to kill the prisoners.
Life was already threatening Paul with death in the storm. Now the captain threatened Paul with death again. But God provided the prisoners with Julius, the army officer, who didn’t want Paul to die. Julius convinced the skipper not to kill the prisoners, and they swam or clung to flotsam—all arriving safely on shore.
No matter how bleak the prospects, God provided a way. In the process, we see the faith increasing of Julius. God can use any circumstance—good, bad or indifferent to further the gospel message. And God never wastes an opportunity to work things together for good of those who love God and are called to be believers.
Thanks be to God.¬¬

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

Acts 27:39-44
King James Version (KJV)
39 And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
40 And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
41 And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
42 And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
43 But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:
44 And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

Prayer of Encouragement
Almighty God, thank you for saving Noah and giving him a sign of the rainbow with a promise that it would never happen again. Thank you for saving Paul when the ship wrecked on a sandbar. We ask for your help in our lives that we might see your promises at work in us. In Jesus name, Amen
Conclusion
Monday, Easter Week Six was a study of water disasters for our Biblical heroes and how God brought them through safely. The rainbow continues to be a reminder of God’s promise that a flood of that magnitude will never happen again. Paul’s amazing journeys that are filled with ups and downs, precariously teetering on life and death moments, serve as a faith building reminder that no matter how great the disaster we find ourselves in (and life will have disasters) that God will provide for us.
Sometimes the disasters result in loss of life—like the Memorial Day that the U.S.A. is celebrating today. God used even loss of life to further the Gospel. Non-believers may see death as a terrible thing. Paul spoke of it as a gain to be in heaven. So, even though there is great sadness when loss occurs, God can work through that to bring good into the lives left behind. The dead already can be with God, so it is not a bad thing.
Still, we love the life we live and most will strive to preserve it, so we celebrate when there are victories like Paul experienced. He told the captain that all would be saved and they were. Trust in the Lord. God will provide. Always.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*

Yesterday there was a double rainbow in my area. I always am so happy to see a rainbow. I had worked with a girl who
had never seen a rainbow, and we were just discussing that. When I got home that night, there was a rainbow in
the sky. I called her immediately and she was thrilled. She was not a beliver so when I told her what the rainbow
was all about, she just said "oh". I always wonder if she has rethought that.
It is amazing how God can take care of us. He is always there. At times I get very up close and personal with God
and ask questions. Who am I to ask?? I think there is a place in the bible where someone was questioning God,
maybe Job and there was some wise information regarding that. I try to be truthful with God, because he knows
what I am thinking anyway. I realize that although I may try to dress things up, that God knows my true thoughts.
I would like virtuous living to have a question and answer place where we can ask questions of Chaplynne and
can get some things explained? Is this something that could be done? I do believe that it was one of the topics
that we could have chosen before we started this series of lessons? It is always good to know Gods word
and how it can relate to our everyday living. I am so happy to have such a witness in Chaplynne, to assist us.
Thanks for todays writing. Harriet0 -
Harriet,
Great comments.
We have had a Question and Answer thread, but go ahead and just post your question on a new topic. As soon as I log in, I check and I will sticky it...and answer it.
