Hi everyone,

So I have just been diagnosed with PCOS 2 day ago. Although I pretty much knew a few weeks ago when my doc brought up the possibility and I did some reading.
Diagnosis based on blood tests (my male hormones are high)
Female hormones indicated I was in multiple stages of my cycle
Long/ irregular cycles
US- cysts on both ovaries (but both are normal size)
Some extra facial hair (but not excessive)

My story: From 11-18yrs I had normal regular periods (avg 33days). At 18 I went on the pill. 6years later (last Oct) I decided to give my body a break and get into a normal cycle as my husband and I were discussing when we might want to start trying for a family and I wanted to give my body at least a yr pill free. Since then my cycles were 45ish days, 30 days, 45 days and then my latest one was 101 days. at 80 days (and not pregnant I checked even though that was very unlikely) I went and saw my doc. Blood tests & US, 3 weeks later when I managed to get back and I have PCOS. Funnily I got my period the next day after seeing the doc the 2nd time.

For me at 25yrs old and already on a weight loss journey (even before this stupidly long cycle) the doc said best to just lose the weight as likely that will be enough for my body to get back into a relatively normal rhythm. When I first saw the doc I said I had lost about 5kg and 3 weeks later she weighed me again and was like Wow, you've lost another 3kg. So I was told just to keep doing whatever I am doing as that seems ti be working. (SW 98kg (216lbs), current weight 89kg (196lbs)). No point going down the medication for weight loss road when this is working for me :)

As my facial hair is not excessive we didn't want to go the medication route at this time.

Basically I was told that as I do want to try for a family towards the end of this yr/early next (and im only 25yrs) best to see how my body goes with weight loss first. And to try naturally initially. If my cycles don't go back into any form of rhythm or don't get pregnant in 6ish mths of trying that she would then refer me to a specialist who would be putting me on ovulation drugs. Then if that still didnt work that IVF is the long term/ nothing else wants to work option. So I was advised to check my private health insurance that it would cover some IVF costs just in case (Australia) . She just wanted me to know there are options so not to stress about it all at this point.

Basically with my age, and other than some extra weight being very healthy & active no need to rush or worry at this point.

I guess its good to know these things but as a very private person I have only discussed it with my husband and will not be telling anyone else (hence these anonymous forums are great). My husband is very supportive and has just said we will do what we need to do when the time comes. Basically he's not worried. And he recons my butt has more definition from the weight loss so far- lol.

Sorry for the long post, just felt like putting my story out there somewhere :)

    Hi there and welcome!

This could have been me about 1-2 years ago, well I am a little older. ;)

My symptoms are also fairly moderate. A bit of facial hair where it shouldn't be, no cysts, but no ovulation. :( Next month we are starting our first clomi cycle (hormons that force my body to ovulate - hopefully). Good luck on your weight loss journey, I am down 12kg since March 1st and though it hasn't affected my cycles yet, I feel better overall and my husband is also very supportive. :)

I say don't stress about it. I bet as long as you are working out & losing weight your periods will keep coming and it will happen. Mine are normal as long as I do this, as soon as I get off track I can tell it because my cycles stop or get farther apart. I did take Clomid for my 2nd child for 2 rounds. That has been 8 years ago. My 1st was a surprise after I stopped taking the pill and had no idea I even had PCOS. I was diagnosed after my 6 week post delivery check up. I remember when I took the Clomid I also took Robitussin cough syrup, something about the vaginal mucous needing to be right or plentiful - I know gross, but it worked so if you eventually take that route, google it.
