The weights given on the side of packaging...

...are completely inaccurate.
Punnets strawberries, tins of tuna, packs of beef... all appear to include the weight of the packaging. Has anyone else noticed this and was I completely naive to have thought that the marked weight was the weight of the food I was buying?

I use digital scales for measuring, as it has been recommended by MFP0 -
Well, yes, that's how I noticed it. Before then, if I was eating the whole, say, tin of tuna I was counting the (net drained) weight indicated on the side of the pack.0

There are times that I think you need a Phd to understand the contents listed on food packaging, weights and cals. I actually hate food shopping as it takes me sometime to actually buy something as I need to study the cal content etc., I am sure I will get better with time but for the time being it can be hard work.0

I weigh most of my food but not always eg one tin of beans split between me and hubby, I don't weigh it just half the weight on the tin. Same with a tin of tuna.0 -
My favourite is when the packaging says "100 CALORIES PER PORTION!" in huge letters and then "1 portion is a quarter of the packet" in tiny letters on the side...! :mad:0

Then you're most likely over-estimating your calories.
Last night - paid for 750g of new potatoes, they weighed in at under 400g.0 -

Just weighed the baked beans out of the tin - 420g, same as what it said on the tin.0 -
Holy ****. I think some of you were probably ahead of me here and can guess what's happened...0

Just to add I didn't randomly open a tin of beans to weigh them, I was having beans on toast for tea!0

Well, I'm glad you opened them, and weighed them and posted their weight here! Because that's when the penny finally dropped.0
