Good morning, duckies!

We have SUN and WARMTH here in Maine, and I'll spend some time enjoying it today!

Conversation starter: Do you have measurable, short-term goals to help you stay motivated? What are they?

Good morning Karen! Yay for Sun where you are. Currently sunny and raining where I am, my absolute most hated combination ever. 94% humidity. =\&#&!

I really don't have short term goals. I wanted to be down where I was at last summer by my birthday or by August at the latest. That gives me about a month to lose 15lbs. I could probably do it if I really pushed myself and picked up the work outs and cut calories to 1200 ever day. But, I don't know. I will just see how it goes.

Semi short is to lose about 50lbs by the end of the year and be in the teens in sizes. Woo!

Karen, not only is it sunny and warm today..it's the 2nd day in a row! woohoo let's hope this continues.

Now that the pool is open my short term goal is to get out there and swim every day. No set amount of time each day, other than it has to be for at least 20 mins. (thank God it's a heated pool or I wouldn't be in it until August!) My semi- short term is to lose 40 lbs by November when we are going to Disney.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Off to my nephew's graduation party. Ciao!

Teach ME to complain about the weather. Our A/C went out! I am going to the pool until it is fixed. Lord pray it get fixed today. I seriously do not do well with heat. God knows I have made that clear with my disdain for Texas.

Okay, let's do this! One month to lose 15 pounds in a safe, healthy way. Keep the calories in a healthy range and ramp up the workouts. I am in if you are... what's four weeks of staying focused and disciplined? Especially this time of year with great produce in the market and good swimming weather.

I've been slacking off on my food diary, so first step is to fix that.

    Are you in?

Anyone else? I think we can call this the Heather's Birthday , four week, boot camp, no excuses, balls to the wall, jumpstart again challenge. Feel free to add to that name, LOL. First weigh in is Friday.

Hi again, gang. I asked this morning's question because I needed to get my head back in the game. I'm so awesome at starting with all this enthusiasm and energy, then I slowly fall apart and drift back into bad habits.

I've stolen Heather's short term goal since I don't have one of my own, LOL, and now I need to get on the scale and record my weight because it has not just creeped up but cannon balled up.

What did I tell Natasha? Two steps toward and one step back is still one step forward.

SHOULD WE STOP TRIGGERING FOOD TALK?

Okay, last post for a while... here's a question for everyone. In forums for binge eating disorders, group members are asked to NOT write about specific, non-healthy foods as they might trigger cravings in others. I know we can't isolate ourselves from food, but maybe we should consider implementing a rule like this. Everyone's response to the word Pizza yesterday is a good example. I have to confess, that's all I thought about all day, and I'm still thinking about it. I know that for some people, all foods are allowable in small portions, but for some of us , those high fat, high carb combos set off a powerful addictive reaction that is almost impossible to stop.

What do you guys think? Can we limit or eliminate the mention of specific foods that might be triggering? We could still use nonspecific names (example: "last night ate way too much fast food" Or" I ate an entire box of sweets."). The nonspecific names won't trigger cravings the way a specific name might.

    Please discuss!

Happy Sunday my friends!! So glad to hear that you are finally getting some warm weather Karen. Here all it seems to do is rain on and off all day. And all that does is make it so humid it's almost impossible to get outside. But I'm still working on getting outside as much as possible. No real plans today except working on a load of laundry and trying not to worry about money which has been impossible lately especially since yesterday I got a notice that they are going to cut the electric off if I don't get them money I don't have. Tomorrow I'm going to call around and see if I can get some help paying it but there's nothing I can do today so there's no sense in worrying about it. Right?

As far as the specific naming of "bad" foods, I know I try to not name them for that exact reason. Not only might they trigger someone else but they can also trigger me to eat more of it. The only problem I see is how to determine the definition of a "bad" food. For some people who are cutting carbs, "bread" might be a trigger word. I'm not sure about that exactly but was just thinking it might be. Just a thought. I'll go with whatever everyone else thinks and like I said I try not to do it anyhow.

As for short term goals....I've broken my weight loss down into 50 pound increments since the beginning of my weight loss journey after going back up from my lowest after surgery. The amount that I needed to lose was just too large for me to wrap my mind around. Not to mention, the thought of being lower than 250 was until just recently completely terrifying. My current 50 pound goal is set at weighing 250. I set daily, weekly and monthly goals as well. My daily goals are things like: log ALL of my food, drink 190 ounces of water, do something for myself every day (even if it's only 5 mins), stay within my set calories (I try not to eat my exercise calories but sometimes I splurge, lol). As for weekly, it's things like: do something purposeful as far as exercise (even if it's just a walk, which my fitbit automatically enters onto MFP so it doesn't show up in the stream) for 30 minutes 5 days a week, work on therapy "homework" at least 3 days a week. My monthly goal is to lose 6 pounds a month. Soon I'm going to be adding a special "me" time every month but that has to wait until after I get my mom paid off and the bills caught up. I only have one more month and my mom will be paid off and then I figure a couple months to get the bills caught up. After that I have made it very clear that I WILL get a one hour massage once a month!

    Have a fantastic Sunday!!!

My birthday is July 16th. 15lbs in 5 weeks is hard for a lot of people. I am up for the challenge though! Its a big one!

    Hey Everyone!

I have learned through my many attempts at losing weight that my success is completely tied to whether or not I am logging each day. Good or bad. This time I plan to award myself based upon the numbers of days I log. I can't control the scale, but I can control my behaviors.

    50 days = small reward
    100 days = medium reward
    150 days = large reward

I'm still brainstorming my reward for each of these milestones.

I'm cool with whatever we decide regarding food discussions.

I don't think it is necessary to refer to specific foods when venting or discussing food issues anyway. We all know that feeling of losing control all too well.

    Off to drink some H2O.

I'll try to check back later!!

Hey Dee, I think nonspecific bread would be okay, but something like cinnamon raisin bread (sorry guys!) might not be.

I'm feeling delightfully exhausted after three hours of playing with neighbors' children in the lake. Water was a bit cool but the Sun was glorious!!!

I am full in ways that food can never provide.

Karen, I am in! By Heather's birthday I will be 15 lbs lighter! And brrrrr on the lake. It was nice here today but there is no way that anything beyond my toes would be in the lake! Are you on Sebago? It hurts my old bones!

Heather, thanks for letting us use your birthday as our goal! Hope you got your A/C fixed! But spending that time in the pool was probably nice too!

Angie, I never thought of rewarding myself for days logged. Good idea! Good luck!

Now I can't remember who else I was going to respond to. Ugh. Getting old sucks! I still blame my memory on pregnancy brain and I haven't been pregnant for 7 years!! HA!

I am ok with people talking about foods, but I can see how it would be hard for some, so I will be fine with whatever we decide as a group.

Edited because now I remember it was Dee that I was going to say something to! Dee, it sucks to have money issues. So sorry that you are going through it. Good luck finding some help and hopefully things will turn around real soon for you. Hugs!

I say talk about whatever you want, we are all responsible for dealing with our cravings, and frankly if complaining about cheeseburgers or pizza is something that will help, I need a place to do it.

Other wise this day has been going well but its disgustingly hot and wont cool down till its way to late for a walk.

What Pat said with ref to food. If i wanted a place with rules like that I would go to a board like that. But I will accept whatever is decided.

I had a short term goal of 10 pounds and I got 9 in one week, I found that upping my water intake majorly like 100 plus ounces a day and walking 2 miles a day and logging my food meticulously it worked and no I did not starve take a look at my food diary....

Hi everybody, I'm new to using this site. I signed up a couple years ago and forgot about the site as I was too busy eating. ;-( my short term goal is to preplanning my food daily and to commit to eating what I've written down. One day at a time! Thank you all for being here!

Hi Maryellen, glad you remembered the site. You're here now and that's what's important. Glad you found our little group. I'm sure you'll love it here. I know I do. It's a great group of people. And you are definitely right when you say one day at a time. Welcome again!!

Thanks Diana for the kind words. I just have to keep truckin' along and know that eventually it will all work out. I wouldn't have brought it up at all except stressing over money means eating out of stress for me if I'm not careful and venting always helps. Thanks again
