Good for you Sue!! I really like mine  . I hope that you will also.

There is a group of younger walkers in this DVD, which was the first in LS "Just Walk" series that have been coming out for some time now. Even though I missed the 'old gang' when this DVD came out I grew to really like the girls and their personalities. They are in some of her other Just Walk DVDs also, and I like that.
There are some moves that were "new" when this DVD came out, but they are now in her other Just Walk series of DVDs so no longer considered 'new' unless you have not used any of the Just Walk series. I modify one or two moves, but I do that on some of her other workouts also. Just my own issue with my ankles and knees.

I like how there are only two music segments in each of the five walks. So I know that when the second one starts that I am half way through that mile. That is good for those days when the miles seem long or I'm tired. The walks are faster paced and peppy. They are 12 minute miles, or so, on average (according to reviews that I had read on line).

I like the color coordination and the miles being noted by color. Nice spin on things that add to the uniqueness of the DVD. The set is bright and pleasant on the eyes. Not her darker set/ studio that seemed to bother some of the people who review her DVDs.

I like that it is totally customizable - in any order that you want your walks or short exercise segments to play, or not. By that I mean that you pre-program your workout if you want, not just skip through miles to find the one you want while walking. It also has a 5 day plan if you want to follow that or use a certain day's plan if you want to walk x number of miles that day with out programming them in for yourself. Of course there are limits to how many total walks/ exercise segments you can program at one time, but it is plenty, so no worries there lol.

The only thing that would have made it totally perfect is if there was a music only option also for the walk portions. Sometimes I like to put on an audio book while keeping the music low enough to hear but not be intrusive, and follow her non verbal cues for the next move. (LOL, I still do this with this and other DVDs without the option any way when I'm in that mood)

The short exercise segments are good if you want to do them for a short focus on a particular area like abs, arms etc. You could program them all together if you want to do only a toning session or in addition to walking. Like I said you can make it your own workout.

That is my take on this DVD. Hope that yo like it Sue. Let us know what you think after you use it for awhile.

    Mary and Duda,,

Thanks SO MUCH for walking with me on this new phase of our journey together...I FEEL your encouragement and support!!!
I REALLY love you. Let's keep this thread going...we can share workouts done, and pull each other through when it feels im-
possible(like tonight, but I'll go there in a minute).Praise God, I've made it through 2 days, but after 2+hours of PT and OT I'm
too tired to keep track of miles walked. I only know that it's Tues. and I did the blue, yellow, green and purple miles with warm
up and cool down. I did overhead and chest presses plus bicep curls...50 reps each at 10 pounds(biceps) and 20 pounds for
chest and overhead press. So, since Leslie only has us walking a mile for Wed. I figure I'll do that mile, and then combine the
arms and legs workouts tomorrow. Duda, we're on track for Wed's workout tomorrow.

Mary, thank you for your thoughtful review of U5DWP. I will respond after I've got a few workouts under my belt. What I can say
is that I LOVED the music in Party Songs and Radio Remixes. That had the fitness beat, but the lyrics and melody were memor-
able. They stayed in my head. With U5DWP, I feel like the fitness beat is all it's got, except for Proud Mary, which is a classic.
The pace is so ELECTRIC that I'm out of breath, dripping in sweat. I had to stop doing double knee lifts halfway through each
cycle and just walk in place. Kept tripping over myself. The beat was relentless, especially the purple mile!!!

I wanted to share something with you. This therapy's been about recovery from a fall, yes, but it's become a lot more than that.
I have almost no core strength, which affects my balance. We've been doing a LOT of work on abs, obliques, and standing ba-
lance. I saw this black and white leopard spotted cane in the therapy room, fell in love and asked if I could be taught to use a
cane. My therapist said, "2 canes would be safer...let's see what you've got." So today, I can stand unassisted for between 30
seconds and one minute, 25 seconds, depending on how tired I am. I've been practicing with canes in the therapy room, too!!!

I have to go, but will check in with you here tomorrow night. God Bless you, Mary and Duda!!!

Christchick7- you motivate me every time. Thanks for sharing your workouts I am pumped!
There is no doubt that you will get stronger each day with your positive attitude and faith.
I have the dvd but have never followed through with doing it each day I was kind of hit one workout here then another there but like the walking challenge I decided to come along here for the ride.

This morning I did the Wednesday 1 mile and feel ready for the day.

Oh and it was a great review Texasgardnr!
    Wonderful Wednesday

Hi Sue, I am so excited about you being given the opportunity to work on your core and to start standing with the assistance of canes. I never thought about it but using a wheel chair would leave little opportunity for a strong core to develop. I am so glad that you have been using LS DVDs for quite awhile b/c I'm sure they have strengthened your legs to some degree which would have not happened if you were not using them.

Also whenever you do a knee lift or a kick always draw back your abdominal muscles toward your spine on each one (unless it is a boosted segment or doubles or of all thing quads :noway: ). That is what Leslie fondly calls a "tummy tuck" if I'm remembering correctly. This is an example of a standing core exercise instead of being on the ground doing crunches. The 'tummy tuck' can be done while standing for the knee lifts and kicks even while holding on to the walker or however you do your walks.

You can google 'standing ab exercises'. And maybe add in one or two that work for you, if possible. I'm not really sure which ones are really good or effective, as there is a lot of sites and exercises that come up on the search. But maybe your PT therapist can help you there.
Maybe share with us if you get any feed back from the therapist.

I love your description of the U5DWP walks  So true! When I borrowed the DVD from my library when it came out (early in my history of using LS DVDs) I struggled to do it in certain parts also :noway: . I felt like I got kicked to the curb each day that week. A number of months later I borrowed it again and decided to attempt it again, and I was pleased with how my strength and energy had improved from those early days. So much so that I purchased my own copy to keep using when I wanted to! So keep up with everything that you are doing and you will continue to gain strength as you recover from the fall... and go beyond what you think that you can!!!

You are an inspiration to me, and I truly mean that from my heart  my precious friend.

    love and hugs,

    Hi Startergal, Mary, and Duda....

Don't feel bad on missing one day this week...I MISSED TWO. One of my therapists, Barbara, told me that my body is not used to
doing 2-3 hours (including Leslie) a day of working out and that's why I got so EXHAUSTED. I actually went to bed at 3:30 PM, got
up 3x for bathroom breaks, and didn't get up till ten AM this morning. I did a LOT of oblique work on Wednesday, and that's when it
started. On the plus side, the canes are AWESOME!!! I've been walking 200 feet a day with them and next week I've been authorized
to bump it up to 400. On the minus side, my standing balance has gotten worse- goal is 1 min 30 sec. Yesterday, the longest I could
manage was 34 sec. Doing a LOT of weight training with the 10-20 pound weights; aiming for 50 reps but don't always make it.

Anyway, I'm more concerned with how you are all doing. What are you all thinking as you are doing U5DWP? Is there anything I can
do to better support you? I'm planning on restarting U5DWP from the beginning on Monday; my goal is to increase balance and build up stamina. Mary, been working on the Leslie "tummy tucks" as you suggested...even to the point of saying,"tummy tucks,"
"center," and "pull belly button towards spine" OUT LOUD as I'm working on balance, lol. Not sure yet if I'm gonna do a workout
today or not; if I do I'll post it here. Thanks AN AWFUL LOT for doing this with me, and your support.

Hi Sue and all! I hadn't planned to use the U5DWP as such with you all, at least not yet. But I'm here to cheer you on :drinker: .

You may have missed where I had two severe muscle spasms in my inner thigh muscles over a week ago. That area is horrible b/c it is hard to stretch it out like it can be done for other muscles cramps. So I tried only walking outdoors and ended up with DOMS also. So I took several days off from any exercise until DOMS was gone. Yesterday and today I walked easier older 2 mile walks. I limit the hamstring curls b/c that is where it is also still tender. And do a lot of extra stretching.

The U5DWP would not be a good idea for me at all right now. I need to ease back into with out losing to much ground. But I'll keep on checking in on whoever is using the U5DWP, which is an awesome DVD!!!

Sue, your report on your progress was wonderful to read! Yes, take it slow and follow the advise of your therapists and you will build back up and also continue to improve on the new things like walking with canes and balance that you are doing!!

I'm beyond happy that you are getting to work o those things!!

    Blessings,
    Mary

Just popping in to say that although I didn't do Friday's workout yesterday, I did it just now. 5RBM really drags for me and I was
afraid this 5 miler would be more of the same. I'm happy to say I liked the pace A LOT better than 5RBM. Taking tomorrow off and
    will start again on Monday.

Yep- that was me with you today girl! I enjoyed the workout and was glad I did it earlier because it wouldn't have happened if I had waited.
Great job- we will hit it again on Monday!

    Debbie, hi!!!

I'm glad to meet you!!! Normally there is a walk challenge for every month. We set a monthly goal of miles we'd like to walk, and
then try to do our best to meet it, cheering each other on all the way. You can use any type of walking you happen to be doing-
doesn't matter if it's Leslie, treadmill, outdoor walks-whatever you want. You can also tell us about any other instructors you've
used(Debbie Rocker, Jessica Smith both have walk DVDs we' have used for example) You can start any day of the month.

This challenge is separate from that. I'm Sue, I have cerebral palsy, and I created it because I needed a plan(Ultimate 5 Day
Walk Plan), opinions and reviews of what people thought of U5DWP, and I wanted some friends to do it with me. I've had a
recent fall, and didn't want to lose momentum with Leslie while I'm recovering and in therapy. I'm still trying to lose 30 pounds,
and I believe this DVD challenge is going to help all of us. You can most definitely join us; you'd be very welcome. You just
need a copy of U5DWP, which you can get from Amazon or through your local library.

The DVD itself is 5 one mile walks, each color coded and preprogrammed by Leslie into a 5 Day workout plan with suggested
walks. Monday, for example, is yellow, red and green, followed by a 5 minute ab workout on the floor. When you are starting
out, you follow Leslie's plan, until you get used to it. After that, there is a Create Your Own Workout option, where you can mix
and match the colored miles to create any one of (I believe) 10 possible combinations. So far we're just doing Leslie's plan and
having AWESOME fun doing it!!! HAPPY WALKING, Debbie!!!

Hi Sue! I did 2 miles from Ultimate 5 Day Walk Plan (customized to do a 'blue' walk) Meaning the blue mile 2 x, and during the warm up and cool down the walkers are wearing blue also, so I ended up creating an all blue inspired walk (on purpose) .

I needed some sort of incentive as I really wanted a free day today, so this is how I got myself to walk some miles today  .

I like that blue mile b/c it has all the girls together with the Proud Mary song. I still get a kick out of Carmelia when she says it was a "walk out" when the song sings about leaving the 'good job in the city' part. Still makes me giggle  and then Leslie's reacting to it is also cute.

You all are doing great walking with the U5DWP DVD!!

    Mary,

I'm SO EXCITED to hear about your ALL BLUE MILE today!!! I can't BELIEVE it-definitely going to try that this weekend. Very creative...See we are walking together!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your thigh spasms-based on my own experience I know how PAINFUL and FRUSTRATING that can
be. Please keep me informed. I admire your ability to listen to your body-something I have yet to master. I think I spend
so much time fighting against my spasticity and tone(rigidity) that I never made friends or had much of a connection with it. You
got me thinking about it, for sure.

Therapy has been REAL interesting this week...doing oblique exercises one side at a time using a resistance band tied to a 3
pound dowel, wheelchair sit ups and lifting 18 pounds on the rickshaw for abs. Canes are going REALLY well-I'm walking ap-
proximately 400 feet up and down Hampton Hall from the therapy room. Bed mobility is slow progress-very painful because of
my weak abs. Standing balance was a complete wipe out...I went from standing unaided for a minute to where I could not even
stand 10 seconds. So we're trying something new-standing on a balance board connected to a Wii Fit. I've never used that in my
life but it's REALLY fun. I'm playing a game called Balance Bubbles in which my avatar is encased in a bubble floating down a
stream. I have to shift my body weight back, front, side to side to navigate the stream, making the turns and avoiding the walls.
So far I keep wiping out at the first turn-roughly 200 feet in. Oh, and so far I've kept up with U5DWP every day this week.

I love the blue mile because of Proud Mary and the Carmela comment as well. I too smile every time even though I know it is coming. I usually do 3 miles and do a custom walk. I usually start with Green, because I like the grapevine. Then I either do red, or purple and sometimes yellow, then always end with Blue because it's my favorite. Then I do the cool down and then the Arms (every other day). Working on firming them! It has made a big difference just doing those few minutes - I use 8 pound weights. Started with 5 and moved to 8 pretty quickly.

Another DVD that has a funny part is the 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk. There is a guy in mile 4 with his wife. Leslie teases him that he has to get in shape for his son's wedding and he has to learn to grapevine.

Hi Mary, Duda, Startergal and DD Mom,

I have been keeping up with ALL the workouts...U5DWP Friday and Monday, plus PT and OT. Bed mobility and abs are still painful
but on abs I'm making slow progress(did 75 reps at 20 pounds on the Rickshaw today, plus 75 wheelchair sit ups). I did NO WORK-
OUTS this weekend-paid for it with stiff muscles and ZERO motivation today- but note to self...I must do a workout or two on the
weekends even if only a mile.

The Wii Fit in the new gym continues to be a revelation...did extra skiing and 2 Basic Runs today. Canes steady at 400 feet today,
More later...thanks SO MUCH for doing this with me!!!
