Morning! Looks like it's going to be another crazy day around here. Every time I have good intentions to spend time doing what I want/need to do, everything comes crashing down around me. Remember the cyst on my son's neck? It's supposed to be coming out in 9 days and now it's red, swollen and painful again. To top it off I can't get anybody in that d#mn doctor's office to call me back!!!! Nothing pisses me off more. It has been more than 24 hours and I've left 4 messages. I know they're not on vacation because it's still the regular voicemail. I guess I'm spoiled by his pediatrician which replies within an hour. Grrrrrrrr. So now I have decided that Cody and I are hopping on the bus, traveling the hour and a half bus ride (one way) to go to the office. They can't ignore me if I'm standing in their office. The think that ticks me off the most if how the doctor told me that if it gets red or irritated again before the procedure, call her IMMEDIATELY so she can prescribe another round of antibiotics since they can't take it out if it's infected again. Sorry, just needed to vent. Thanks for listening. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!!0

Oh no Dee! No one better mess with Mama Bear! I hope you get him help today!
I don't really have any topic ideas. Something kind of gross and TMI issues that I have. TMI TMI TMI ****
I am drinking a good amount of water. I try to get in just about 100oz a day and I am eating vegetables. Not wheat though and no breads. I did have a fruit granola bar this morning to try and keep my energy up throughout the day because I am dealing with energy/headache issues.
However...I am having issues going... like only once a week. Anyone else having this problem? I know I am not eating much.. and you have to eat to go. But I just get so frustrated because I feel like I should be eliminating what I am eating some how. It's been a week already and nothing. Oh and I am taking fiber pills. Last week I just finally caved and took 3 laxatives after 1 didn't do anything I took 2 more.0 -
I'm sorry about the situation with your son. I would be going straight down to their office too. I'm so sorry its such a long way.
Aside from the $406 traffic ticket (apparently summer school is going on thus the school zone still applies) my husband got when we were on our way to work this morning (we carpool), my day is going pretty well. I'm doing a lot of training today in preparation of my last day of work (June 16th). A coworker is buying me lunch tomorrow--I chose Jimmy John's because I lovelovelove their lettuce wrap subs. And that is saying a lot since I love their bread.
I logged everything and stayed in range yesterday for the first time in at least a week. Headed for the same thing today, so it's all good.
Well, aside from the speeding ticket.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Dee, sorry about your doctor frustrations. I hate dealing with doctors...copay after copay because GOD-FORBID we just run all the tests in one visit. Then a follow-up appointment (another copay) to read the results. Not to mention every doctor insists of running my bloodwork every time I see them about anything because they think they are gonna be the one to find my hidden diabetes or thyroid issue. NEWSFLASH...I am fat, that's it. If it was diabetes or thyroid I would have started dealt with it years ago!!! MISTER DOCTOR MAN/WOMAN JUST PLEASE HELP ME DEAL WITH THE ISSUE AT HAND!! (oops, got a little carried away on that one)
Becky, ugh! Over $400? I know we should go the speed limit, but really is that amount necessary?

On the subject of constipation, I have found that not all fiber products work the same for me. I have been most successful with a daily dose of Metamucil in a glass of water. It does come in a sugar free form. I don't understand why it seems to work so much better than pills or fiber bars.

I hope you get the help you need at the doctor's, Dee! How insanely frustrating that they won't return your calls.
I had a really good workout day yesterday. I did manage to corner one of the gym staff to show me some free weight exercises. He wrote down what he taught me and I'll be trying to incorporate that rather than the machines from now on. I definitely feel it more! My quads are killing me from the dumb bell dead lifts. I need to work on keeping the weight on the back of my feet. The trainer said that will help me achieve "glute dominance." I'm so mature that all I could picture was a butt wearing a crown
Today is my birthday and I'm going to a homestyle Thai restaurant with my fiance for dinner. I have *no* idea how I'll track that because they basically just bring you several courses of whatever they cook for the night and apparently don't always tell you what it is. I'll do the best I can, though.
I also have a free "birthday drink" from Starbucks and I'm trying to decide how I want to spend that/what's worth the calories...
I need to get something soon! I didn't eat much yesterday (not intentionally, I just was at the gym much longer than anticipated and had to force myself to eat as much as I did). I'm definitely hungry now!0 -
Happy Birthday NorahCait!!!!0
-
Happy Birthday, Norah!
Blondage, I'm having the opposite issue lately, so I can't offer any suggestions, just my sympathies.
Angie, the cop actually gave us a break. School zone is 15 and we were going 45--the fine isnt even list because you have a mandatory court hearing. He knocked it down to 30 in a 15, which easily saved us $100+.
I guess we learned the hard way that summer school is in session! :-( No one else knew either because there were people being pulled over left and right. Thing that really sucks is that my husband is always the one yelling at people blowing through school zones.
-Becky in Florida0 -
Summer school? Are you kidding me? What a joke. Yeah definitely show up to court to get that reduced.
Happy Happy Birthday Norah! Enjoy your dinner. It only happens once a year! Great job on the gym. I'm still way too chicken **** to ask for help.0 -
Happy Birthday Norah!!0

Sorry to hear about your son Dee, hope he feels better soon.
Happy Birthday Norah.
It's been a good couple of days except for the weather, it's just been so hot through the day that it hasn't been cooling down in time to go for my walks. Hopefully today will be better. I will also be picking up a jump rope tomorrow, all 300lbs of giggling sinew.
Picked up a potential new client yesterday and finished the first project this morning. Hopefully it works out as they have five locations and a lot of collateral needs and i could use a new long term client with a lot of recurring work.0 -
I agree with the person who recommended Metamucil as even with my mother's heart problems that is what her doctor recommends. Also, anything you can do to add fresh vegetables may also help with this problem.
Today I noticed I am still holding extra fluid from the boiled crawfish Sunday. Upping the water today to get rid of the rest of the excess sodium. The scale doesn't show any additional pounds lost but I'm sure it will if I stick to it.0 -
Congrats on the new client Patrick, hope it works out. Jumping rope is great exercise and just be glad you aren't a girl. I'm afraid all that jumping could cause problems here.
Sodium is a beast, Madeline. I mentioned Chicken in the other thread and even made some notes about it in my diary today. I haven't eaten it yet, but I am a little ticked that I have no idea how much sodium is in my chicken breast I am planning on having for dinner. The diary says 880mg of sodium. It is fresh, not frozen, so it shouldn't be that preserved, I already cooked it so I don't have the package. Anyways, I am over my sodium already as usual. I cannot seem to NOT be over, ever, even eating 90% non-processed.
Oh well. So, I am constantly up a couple lbs. What can you?
I will check out the suggestions..I appreciate them very much. It is nothing new, it just is me but has me wondering, where the heck is it going if not out?0 -
Heather I am actually eating fresh chicken breast tonight for supper. 100g has 79g of sodium. If it is fresh not frozen I do not see how yours could be that high! I have to watch my sodium, I am on high bp meds. I have been keeping it between 1800 to 2300 most days, but sometimes it is really hard and it goes up. I was watching my fat rather than sodium for a while and now I am better with that I am getting on my sodium numbers as being hbp I should be keeping it 1500 to 1800 I think. I bought a no salt seasoning thing the other day. So now I have to balance processed foods - if I have a light cheese triangle on my whole wheat english muffin, I need to have something non processed for supper for example. I reduce salt in recipes when I cook or bake. Switch to unsalted butter. And the recent one that will make a big difference is use this non salt seasoning on my food.
Edit: Hope that does not send anyone diving for salt0 -
I flipped about the light laughing cheese wedges on my news feed the other day. I bought the local store brand here which are only 25 calories a wedge but have 250mg of sodium per!
I got the sodium count from the mfp database but there is so many options to choose from it is driving me batty.0 -

Some chicken, particularly some store bought brands have "added water" which can include water and salt. It's makes them juicer and plumper. But that should be listed on the package. I would double check the nutritional information on the packaging. I don't think it's really an issue of fresh or problem, just weather it has added sodium.0 -
Hello lovelies! Finally retrieved my phone and am back online.
Diana, Yes, very small world! I am in Gray but very close to the Cumberland line. We should meet up sometime! I think you also commented about losing 113 pounds? When I started, they're me I needed to lose 94 pounds before surgery. Then last week they said, "you did good.. you don't need to lose more." I only lost 35 in four months. If you are opting for sleeve gastrectomy, BMI needs b to be below 70.
Norah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Another June Gemini. We really are the best, right Angie?
Heather, you are adorable even with crazy hair. I am a perpetual ponytail wearer too... my hair is like a purple minion. About that scale... yeah... I'll be getting on that tomorrow morning and assessing the damage. About the constipation... for me, exercise is the key. If I exercise, everything moves.
Had a good talk with the shrink today about self-sabotage. I did not" blow it".. I just had a temporary setback. She reminded me of all the progress I've made in the last two years, so I am grateful and less discouraged.
Hope everyone is doing well!

I finally figured it out. I google imaged searched to find out the exact chicken I always buy since it is pretty much just the generic chicken breast at Walmart. (Which is Pilgrim's Boneless Skinless Fresh Chicken Breast with Rib Meat) at my local Wal-Mart
I found out that it Contains 2% Or Less of Sea Salt, Carrageenan [Natural Ingredient Used to Retain Moisture].so it is only 125mg of sodium per every raw 4oz. Now, how much get's cooked off, we will never know, same with fat content.
I also did figure out, if I am counting 8oz cooked tonight, I need to use the 12oz raw calculations since I already cooked it, it is too late to weigh now. In the future, I will just weigh before.
I know it sounds crazy that I have been obsessing about this for a while, but can you imagine? Since 2010, I have been counting 8 sometimes more ounces of chicken as 220 calories. That adds up! Especially when some days, weeks, that is all I eat!
Super happy about the lower sodium count!!! ♥0 -

First off, Hello Karen!!
2nd...WHAT THE WHAT!!? I missed Diana's post last night. They want you to lose 113lbs before WLS and they wanted you to lose 94? That is just crazy. I am so glad they aren't making you wait for more. That is just dumb. Is it the insurance companies or the doctors? I see my 600lb life all the time and there are much bigger people on there getting it. However, I do know it is always at that hospital in Houston where they have the equipment for it etc. Still.. that is crazy. I just can't wrap my head around that one.
I have a guy at work..A kid really. He is only 25 or maybe 26 now. Sweetest guy in the world. But he is about 650 or so. He wants to have surgery so bad. They told him he has to lose weight first too. He wants to just get the lap band done because it is cheaper and our stupid insurance doesn't pay for WLS unless you have been here for 5 years and then you have to pay for the first 10K and then they only pay for a certain percent. Nice huh? Oh and of course you have to jump through all the hoops of the whole year long pre-op bull****. Really? This kid is dying over here. He already has been hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs.. etc. Yet he came to work everyday with a smile. Trying to save his money and pay for it out of pocket instead.
I think he has just given up now. I see a bunch of junk food on his desk at lunch time. For a long time he was doing good trying to lose the weight needed to get it done, but the finances, he just couldn't come up with. So.. I know this has turned into a long story. I am just frustrated with the whole God damn thing. Why can't they just approve it when people really need it? It is obvious when you have a past history of 20 years of yo-yo dieting (like me) or if you are 25 years old and 650lbs, you need help.
I don't need a year of pre-op bull**** or 10K medical bills. How about you just cover the cost now and I will save you 500k later down the road when I have my first heart attack you sons of *****es....
/rant over. :grumble:0 -
He needs to call that doctor in Houston!
It really is crazy. I swear, the insurance companies are hoping we just die before we get too expensive. In the meantime, let's give that CEO another 2.7 million bonus check.
K.0 -
That gives me an idea......I wonder if he would be interested in doing that show. I mean...I kind of assumed people on there get their surgeries paid for or at least their follow up care? I never checked into it and I don't want to hurt his feelings.. Maybe I should stay out of it. I don't know. But we aren't far from Houston at all...0
-
Heather, I totally agree!
At this stage in my life WLS is not for me...I want to try to do it myself and I think I can with the support of folks like you and this board. However, if I did decided that I needed assistance, then I REALLY NEED HELP. And I would be furious to have to wait.
People don't decide to have WLS like its the flu shot or something. It is not a decision people arrive at lightly. I think having to lose a great deal of weight prior to surgery is ridiculous. (A small amount yes, but I think more to be sure they are committed to the post surgery lifestyle) But not 100 pounds!!!
If it was any other serious medical procedure they wouldn't make you wait...they'd have you sign a waiver, get in there and get it done!0 -

I can understand the obsessiveness. I have a salad spreadsheet for calculating the nutritional information for the salad mixes I make from the market. All 12 calories... Probably too obsessive but it makes things easier once it's done.
You always got to check those nutritional labels, thankfully they will tell you if the nutritional values is based on raw or cooked.0 -

Not every one goes once a day...sometimes every 3 days. Have you tried Senokot S (or the cheaper generic brand). Will keep you regular because the last thing we need is to be blocked up...headaches, bloating etc etc.0 -
I haven't ever heard of it. I will check it out. Maybe that is why I always have a headache?0
-
Thanks for all the support guys and Heather you're right.....this Momma bear will tear of your head if you mess with her baby (he may be 6'3, 200 pounds and 16 but he'll always be my baby, hehe). I called and complained more this morning and finally the doctor decided to call me back. She ordered another round of antibiotics and said we'll evaluate it on the 16th when we go in. Was really glad I didn't have to go to their office. I got to go to my therapy appointment instead which was nice.
Heather, have you tried taking something like Docusate which is a stool softner. I know Michael has this same problem partially because he doesn't eat enough to keep a bird alive and partially because he if prescribed several opiads. He takes a Docusate twice a day and a Senna once a day. He still occasionally has a problem but then I give him a couple gentle, overnight laxatives and that usually works. Not sure what else you could try. Might need to call and ask your doctor for suggestions. You don't want to go too many days without going, that can be dangerous.
Becky, all I can say is OUCH!!!! $406!!!??? That's horrible. Great job staying within range yesterday. I know just how hard that can be.
Angie, get carried away all you want. Damn doctors nickle and dime us (who am I kidding they're just robbing us blind) with all those co-pays. It kills me when every doctor wants to run the same test over and over. C'mon that's just ridiculous.
Andrea, I find that the powdered form works much better for me than the pills also.
Norah, first and foremost.......Happy birthday!!!! Oh my, you made me laugh so hard at the cow wearing a crown. Too funny. Glad you were able to find someone to show you the free weights.
Pat, sorry to hear about the weather being so hot. I can empathize. It hasn't gotten that bad in St. Louis yet but it surely will. Right now we're just dealing with a ton of rain. Glad you picked up a new client. Hope it works out in the long run for you.
The hoops I had to jump through were udderly ridiculous! Most of the hoop jumping is for the insurance but some of it is the surgeon. I got into an argument once with an insurance agent when she told me they wouldn't pay any on WLS. She actually had the nerve to tell me if I was anorexic or bulimic they could help me but i was fat and that was my own damn fault! You can guess that didn't go over too well with me. I told her at one point, "so you'd rather pay for the heart attack or stroke and all the time in the hospital, surgeries, medicine, therapy, etc. associated with it instead of doing something to prevent it?" She actually said, "yes." I was so irate at that point I just hung up.
Hope everyone had a fantastic day!!!0 -
I know from years of struggling with this that it is miserable! Something that has helped me is Natural Calm. http://naturalvitality.com/natural-calm-plus-calcium/ if this link doesn't work you may want to google it. It was recommended to me years ago. You can get it in most health food stores. Lots of benefits besides relief from constipation. Good lick!0

I hope you had a great birthday and enjoyed your dinner!0

My tai chi teacher has us do a bowel movement pose, believe it or not. And it works! Not immediately!!! Later in the day..0
