GETTING STARTED
Sticking to good nutrition is a lot easier with advanced planning. There is temptation everywhere but you are badass CrossFitters so I know that you can kick temptation in the butt and stay on track during this challenge! Here are some tips to help you along:
1) Either do a purge of your house or create a space for healthy foods. I have kids and they aren't participating in this challenge. There is going to be cereal and junky stuff around me. I lower temptation by creating space for my foods. I have my own cabinet in the kitchen and my own shelf in the fridge. When I'm hungry, I can go straight for the foods that I know I can have without having to look at theirs. I would recommend purging the bad food in your house or creating your own space. It will really help you stay on track.
2) Always have food with you!!! There really isn't much in the way food that you can grab quickly while you are out in the world that would allow you to keep to the challenge rules. The very best way to counter surprise hunger, snacktime or any other instance where you need to eat while out, is to carry your own snacks/meals. Beef jerky, celery with peanut butter (Make sure to buy a brand without added sugar!), baby carrots, apples and nuts are great portable snacks.
3) If you don’t want to cook all the time, pick a day and prepare some food in advance that you can refrigerate or freeze for a few days and warm up when you’re ready.
4) Chipotle is your friend! Get a bowl and pile on the meat, salsa, veggies and guacamole. Go light on the beans and rice if you've already had a lot of carbs for the day (we'll talk about what a lot of carbs constitutes). Skip the sour cream unless you have some grass-fed sour cream on hand (which you can find at Whole Foods under the brand "Natural by Nature").
5) If you are dying for bread, give PaleoBread a try. You can find it in the freezer section at Whole Foods. It's expensive, and might taste a little different the first time you have it, but if you just can't live another moment without bread, it will help you through your tough time.
6) Use this forum, talk to your friends and coaches at the gym, share the recipes that you have found on the Recipes thread. The more that we engage and support each other, the easier and more fun this will be!
