Morton's Neuroma

Morton's neuroma is a painful thickening of tissue around one of the nerves leading up to your toes. Most commonly between the third and fourth toe. It causes a burning sensation, a painful numbness, paralysis type feeling. Mine has been developing for years in my left foot. It comes and it goes. Well, it's been rearing its ugly head every single run & it's driving me crazy. I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone through this? Did anyone get the cortisone or alcohol shots? Anyone have surgery to correct it? I've always worn Saucony running shoes, looking into Hoka now. Any suggestions on brands with a wider toe box?

I am sorry but I know nothing of this issue - and maybe you should look at custom orthotics? However I DO have wide feet and know Asics and Brooks run wider or you can buy a shoe that comes in a wide.

Try wearing the men version of the shoe you are currently in... they tend to be wider upfront....

I had it several years ago in both feet. My left foot got better on its own, but rightie needed surgery. I did do cortisone and alcohol shots, but they didn't help.

If you've already switched shoes to a larger/wider size and you're still having issues, time to go visit your friendly neighborhood podiatrist. Preferably one who treats athletes. I had one whose advice was "stop running and biking". No way, Jose! Aside from having brief issues with scar tissue, I've been pain-free since then.

Hmmm.... I've had the toe numbness on and off for years but I've made changes and have been pain free.
My podiatrist suggested a shoe with a wider toe box. I really like Brooke's shoes for running but saucony 's are my second choice.
Also make sure you are buying the right size. Many people measure from the big toe but that isn't always the longest toe. Fit to your biggest foot and longest toe.

Have you tried putting the little shim inside your shoe, under the insole, at the base of your metatarsal bones, just behind where the pain is?
At the Fleet Feet running shoe store where I live, they even sell little shims for this, and most of the salespeople are able to tell people how to put them in.
My wife has used a shim and it has helped her a lot. i believe it is considered the best first line of treatment for Morton's neuroma.

Dr. Scholl's makes a triangle small shaped insert that sticks into your shoe - I wore it in both running and everyday shoes and within a month was able to remove it and be pain free. I was also able to run during the time that I wore it without any pain.

I made the switch to Hoka's for many reasons, that being one of them. It helped with my left foot, my right foot is still a little fussy but improved. Worth a shot!

Just want to throw out there that Altra's have a HUGE toe box. They are amazing.

    Wider toe box is helpful.

Thank you to everyone for your advice! I bought a gel metatarsal pad that fits on the toe pad. I've worn it for 3 runs now & I'm very happy with no issues. It's amazing. It causes other sensations, but no pain! I think it's similar to the "shim" someone else was suggesting.
