protein vs calories?

I had gastric bypass (roux n y) in January of 2010. I've gained back 13 pounds from my lowest of 128...in speaking to the Nurse practitioner today she said to keep my calories to 1100 and my protein at 90 grams. I can't for the life of me figure out how to eat that much protein on 1100 calories. I have the additional issue that I don't like a lot of meat and I can't do milk, but I can do greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I need to get this 13 pounds OFF! I did get into bad habits with sweets and grazing...I tend to nosh on pumpkin seeds, cereal, pretzels and sometimes candy. I KNOW this is bad, and I'm now tracking my food again.and trying to snack on raw vegetables. I'm also trying to increase my activity. I am in the process of quitting smoking, as I started again after 18 years quit 2 years after my surgery. My goal is to get healthy. I am actually happy at 134...but I really liked 128. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

It gets harder if you don't do much meat. Meat still supplies the most protein with no carbs, is low calorie in lean cuts, and keeps you feeling full a long time. Can you do fish? Tuna fish has about the highest amount of protein per calorie as anything I've seen. Powdered protein is great, but doesn't have the density to keep you satiated. The syntrax nectars mix with water instead of milk.

Any of the plant based proteins are going to have a lot more carbs than protein, and getting to your protein goal will require a lot more calories.

    eggs, powdered egg whites...
there is not a lot of room for anything else, 1 gram protein = 4 calories- so 90 grams PURE PROTEIN/no fat/waste is 360 calories,
personally i think its a little too low, but ...i am not your nutritionist
if i Were YOUR Weight loss Nutitionist ,(which i am not )
I would reccomend about 70-75 grams protein and 1350 calories - eat back 1/3 of your exercise calories(max)
but I am not your nutritionist.

I am changing doctors (due to distance) so it will be interesting what they tell me on the 18th. I need to find another exercise plan in addition to walking because it is POURING out...I mean POURING. I was going to go to the college gym but didn't realize they close at 8 and I started dinner for everyone so that blew that out the window....maybe I will go walk the mall if the rain slows down enough to get to the car without getting absolutely soaked....

I find that I am hungry at 1100 calories. I bumped it up to 1200....lets see if I get fussed at.

Anybody that thinks GPS is easy.......nah....not so much! LOL!

ZUMBA or the Be Fit channel on Youtube, great at home workouts.
also search for body wight exercises,
you know for about 50.00-75.00 you can set up a pretty decent workout space,
    a set of either 3 or 5lb dumbells ,
    a yoga mat
    a resistance band
    and an exercise ball,
honestly you can do a lot for yourself just by being creative.

I know your dilemma! The dietician who did my pre-RNY counseling recommends 1600 calories for maintenance. The bariatric surgeon's nutritionist says that I must stay at 1200 calories for life. Both recommend at least 75 grams of protein. I'm going middle of the road with 1400! (I'm 5'8" and 149 lbs and almost two years post-RNY)

As for protein, I eat plain Greek yogurt with PB2 powder, daily. It is my go-to snack. Otherwise, my hand reaches for the carbs - crackers, pretzels, ...which always leads to weight gain, for me. I also like WonderSlim shakes- lots of protein and low calories. Quest bars are my sweet treat - especially the cookies and cream bars.

Please let us know what your new doctor says!!

I guess the answer to your question is that there is no definitive answer. :ohwell: Please let us know what your new doctor recommends!

    EXACTLY THIS!!
you listen to all the people on the boards , and they are like dont go under this , eat back all your exercise cals, etc etc...
the truth is it takes a lot of REALLY diligent observation to find out what works best FOR YOU!
and i can virtually promise, what works for me or ms Maggie, may or may not work just right for you...
in this particular case, while we are all snowflakes, you ARE your own snowflake.
