Hi All,
Getting gastric sleeve operation tomorrow...mixed feelings. Have lost 11kg (approx 24 lb) in 21 days on liquid diet before the operation. Have been craving all sorts of things. One way or another, things are never going to be the same again...could use some post-op advice on coming to grips with it from people on here if willing to share..:)
Cheers all,
DJH

OK, here is summary of "advice" I would give:
Get plenty of rest and water intake the day before.
Make sure all your legal and healthcare directive documents are up to date.
Get ready for a new beginning when you wake up in the recovery room.
My best recommendation is to follow exactly, to the letter, every instruction your clinic gives you.
They have lots of experience with this procedure and know the ins and outs of all of it.
IF you follow their advice I can tell you from personal experience you will have less troubles.
Hopefully you have your grocery shopping done for the first two weeks after surgery (or have a good friend or
spouse who can go for you). Keep some Powerade Zero or other calorie free sports drinks around when you
get thirsty and if you are like me you will be thirsty all the time but perhaps not able to drink as much or as
big of a "gulp" as you did before surgery. Follow your "sip" instructions as instructed. You may need to push yourself in many ways! I brought with me sheets with the numbers 1-100 with me, so I could cross off each sip as I consumed them! Take it easy on yourself and feel free to take an afternoon nap when you want to. Get up and get walking the very day of surgery, as soon as possible....it will be tough but you can do it! Good luck on your new beginning. Glad you are my friend and I will be watching your progress.0 -

SO much this. (And everything else dcc said, but especially this).
This is going to be a really exciting time. It just gets better and better every day after surgery. Things won't be the same, but that's fine, this is going to be a change for the better! Good luck to you, wishing you a speedy and easy recovery :-)0 -
Wow that idea for the 1-100 checklist I never would have thought of, thats a great idea. Thanks for all the advice - will keep you posted...! Hope your own goals are proceeding well..:)0

I had a day when I had to be alone in the house, so I got a health aide in and pretty much all I had her do was remind me every five minutes to drink, every 15 to use my spirometer and every hour to get up and walk around.
Also, remember that any pain you have will pass, that any emotions you are feeling will pass also and with any luck, all that gas will also pass - and quickly. Because that is THE WORST.0 -
DJ: it will be a roller coaster ride, not just for your body but your mind as well. Sip your liquids, take short walks down the hallway, and take naps. Be kind to yourself. Good luck, and I will be watching for your progress report.0

We're all wishing you the best, DJ! Looking forward to hearing great things from you soon! Get some sleep!0

Hey DJ, wishing you the best with your surgery. At this time tomorrow your surgery will be over and you will be starting the next chapter in your life. I look forward to watching your journey through your posts. Take good care of yourself and remember that you have a ton of support and encouragement here.0

I hope your surgery today went well and you're not in too much pain. If so, by the time you get home it will lessen. My surgeon gave me pain pills, pills for nausea and cramping for post-surgery. Glad to say I didn't need only a couple of them and was back to my Nanny position within 3 days of being home.
I agree with all the above comments - exactly what I would have advised. The main thing is drink plenty of water, get your protein in and remember milk is a meal.
Have a good weekend post surgery.
