Hi everyone,
I am having VSG two weeks from today on June 25. I'm really excited, but also pretty nervous. I'm excited to have found this group so that I can discuss it with people who have also experienced what I'm about to experience!
I started my pre-op diet today, and I'm required to only have clear liquids and 4 protein shakes a day. I drank my breakfast and lunch shake fine, but this evening my dinner shake made me nauseous, and I ended up getting sick. I didn't drink it quickly. I paced myself to finish in about 20 minutes. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I've had plenty of protein shakes before and there wasn't anything different about this one.
Thanks for any help!

Some protein shakes start out fine then later give me reflux. For now I can only tolerate pure protein shakes. Maybe a OTC omeprazole might help. Check with your MD0 -
Welcome to the forum. We are happy to have you here. My surgery is in a few months so I can't offer any advice from experience. Do you have to have a particular brand of shakes? Maybe another brand would go down easier. Check with your Bariatric Nurse, Doctor or team.
A lot of people seem to like the pre mixed Premier Protein Shakes. They have 30 Grams of Protein and are pre-mixed.
It's always best to call your Bariatric Team.
Good luck and please keep posted.
Once again, welcome to the forum.0 -
My surgery is not scheduled yet but I think it will be in September. My doctor already started me on the protein shakes and I really like the one call Pure Protein. It is not gritty and does not have an after taste. I drink one in the morning for breakfast. Good luck with your surgery and I know how excited that you are.0

Hi! I use Syntrax Nectar proetin shakes. I get the powder from my bariatric surgeon's office store, but you can order on line. I've tried a few others, but like this brand the best for flavor and the fact that no matter what you mix them with, there's no gritty taste. Lots of flavors too!
Good luck!

I really like the Bariatric Advantage shakes, available from their website. Amazon also carries some of them. They cost more there, but some are eligible for 2 day Amazon Prime delivery. You'll be drinking protein shakes after surgery, so if it takes a while for something to get to you, you will use them after. Just don't order a lot because your taste buds might change.
And you may have gotten sick because your stomach acid is working overtime and just doesn't have any solid food to work on.0 -
Thank you all for your help! Today has gone pretty smooth, so I think it was just a fluke. I'll definitely be using some of the recommendations you gave me. I appreciate the help!0
